Notes: Abstract Dissolution of γ-irradiated NaH3 (SeO3)2 in the aqueous solution of sodium nitrate results in the reduction of the latter to nitrite. The yield of nitrite has been studied as a function of γ-ray dose given to the selenite. The results have been discussed assuming formation of the transient anions SeOnΔ3-n and NOmΔ3-m and the chemical reactions of these radical anions in solution.

Notes: Abstract A comparative study of the isothermal and non-isothermal decompositions of malonic acid has been carried out using the gasometric technique at atmospheric pressure. Under isothermal conditions, the results indicate two different mechanisms. At lower operating temperatures the decomposition process is governed by first-order kinetics, while at higher temperatures it is controlled by the random nucleation Erofeev equation. Analysis of the non-isothermal TG curves proved the advantageous use of this technique. It provides quick and valid information about the thermal decomposition kinetics of malonic acid, both in the pure state and when catalysed by solid 12-molybdophosphoric acid and its bismuth salts. Via the applicability of a non-isothermal kinetic equation, it was demonstrated that the factor causing the enhancement effect of these catalysts is mainly electronic in nature.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurde die synergistische Extraktion von Kobalt(II)-Komplexen mit Toluol-3,4-dithiol (TDT) in Gegenwart von Monobenzylamin (BA), Dibenzylamin (DBA) und Tribenzylamin (TBA) untersucht.
Notes: Abstract The synergistic extraction of cobalt(II) complexes with toluene-3,4-dithiol (TDT) in presence of monobenzylamine (BA), dibenzylamine (DBA) and tribenzylamine (TBA) has been investigated. The stoichiometry of the adducts formed was established from the extraction data. Values of the formation constant,B ex, in presence of the amine ligands have been determined. It is found that the extraction ability decreases in the orderDBA ≫TBA〉BA.

Notes: Abstract The chemical effects of51Cr-neutron capture recoils produced in a series of mixed crystals of the type K3Cr/C2O4/3−K3Fe/C2O4/3 were investigated. Analysis of the neutron irradiated samples was performed making use of synergetic solvent extraction and gamma ray scintillation spectroscopy. It was found that the initial chromium parent retentions vary linearly with mole fraction in the mixed crystals. The results are discussed in terms of retention and non-retention reactions and in view of a kinetic model and a mechanism involving elementary impacts, metal- and ligand-vacancy exchange, substitution and transfer reactions.

Notes: Abstract Gamma irradiation effects of chromium isotope exchange in magnesium chromate — zinc chromate mixtures doped with51Cr/III/ were investigated. It was found that γ irradiation has an oxidation effect and the percentage of51Cr/VI/ exchanged increases with increasing γ-ray dose. The data were explained in terms of mechanistic model involving metal and ligand vacancies exchange and substitution reactions.

Notes: Abstract The chemical effects of chromium neutron capture recoils produced in mixed crystals of the type K3Cr/C2O4/3−K3Al/C2O4/3 and K3Cr/CN/6−K3Al/CN/6 have been investigated. The initial parent retentions in the investigated mixed crystals have been determined using solvent extraction techniques and making use of 0.32 MeV photopeak for51Cr produced as a result of thermal neutron capture. It was found that initial chromium parent retentions varies linearly with parent mole fraction in the mixed crystals. The retention and non-retention results have been discussed in terms of a mechanistic model involving metal and ligand vacancies exchange and substitution reactions.

Notes: Gamma irradiation effects on the electrical conductivity behavior of some new synthesized poly(2,5-arylidenecyclopentanone) 1, poly(2,6-arylidenecyclohexanone) 2, and their co-polymers 3, have been investigated. Thermal studies over the temperature range 300-500 K showed that the conductivity behavior follows a two-term Arrhenius-type equation. The first term has a small activation energy and predominates at lower temperature (extrinsic region), and the second term with higher activation energy predominates at higher temperatures (intrinsic region). Change in the activation parameters with the change in the γ-ray dose and the nature of the polymers are discussed. The IR absorption spectra showed a decrease in the intensity of most bands of the γ-irradiated samples. A mechanism based on the formation of trapped free radicals and their recombination has been suggested. DSC measurements indicated that the crystallization and the melting temperature transitions decreased in size considerably with the increase in the γ-ray dose until they nearly disappeared at higher γ-ray dose.
