Notes: [Auszug] The animals used in this study were inbred Wistar (W) and Fisher (F) rat strains. Adult F female rats were sensitized to the W strain by skin grafting followed two weeks later by an intraperitoneal injection of 4 x 107 W spleen cells. Animals were killed 7-14 days after the second sensitiza-tion ...

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Betaine reacts with phenol and alkyl or halogen substituted phenols in the presence of CaO in good yield to phenyl methyl ethers and phenoxy acetic acids. Also phenols with steric hindrance are readily converted in methyl ethers. Various reaction pathways are discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Influence of sulphur on the carburization of a CrNiFe-alloy at high temperaturesGravimetric investigations at 900, 1000 and 1100°C have been performed on the corrosion of Incoloy 800 (X 40 CrNi 21 32) in CH4-H2-H2S mixtures at the carbon activity aC = 1 and with varied ratios: 10-6 〈 H2S/H2 〈 10-3. The carburization and internal carbide formation is increasingly retarded with increasing ratio H2S/H2 up to the stability limit of CrS, where sulfidation starts and carburization begins anew. The retardation of the carburization is caused by adsorbed sulphur, blocking the metallic surface for the carbon transfer from the gas phase. Selenium and tellurium also are inhibitors for the carburization. With the optimum H2S/H2-ratio experiments have been performed at aC 〉 1, in which the graphite formation on the metallic surface was suppressed effectively. The application of these effects for inhibiting carburization is discussed.

Notes: Abstract We present the first observation of optical transitions between doubly excited doublet states in the term systems N V, O VI and F VII. The spectra were produced by foil excitation of fast ion beams. The assignment of the spectral lines was made by comparison with the results of MCDF calculations along the isoelectronic sequence. The same method also led to the identification of two 3d – 4f quartet transitions in Mg X.

Notes: Abstract The lifetimes of the resonance levels in the Al-like ions Ti X, Fe XIV and Ni XVI have been obtained from beam-foil measurements using a variety of analytical techniques. The spectral analysis and identification of cascade transitions necessary for application of the ANDC procedure have been aided by recent observations of laser-produced plasmas. The lifetime values obtained from ANDC analyses for the 3s 3p 2 doublet levels agree well with predictions based on semi-empirical Hartree-Fock calculations. However, the ANDC results for the 3s 2 3d levels fall between the values obtained using multi-exponential curve-fitting and from the calculations.

Notes: Abstract A grazing-incidence spectrometer for the wavelength range λ≦13 nm has been built and tested with foil-excited fast oxygen ions. The new apparatus has been used to study the variation of the 2s 3p 3 P 1 0 level lifetime in the Be isoelectronic sequence by observation of the intercombination decay to the 2s 2 1 S 0 ground state. The experimental problems are described. The results agree with only some of the theoretical predictions.

Notes: Abstract The beam-foil spectrum obtained using a beam of Ti3+ ions of energy 10 MeV has been studied over the wavelength range from 14 nm to 80 nm. New assignments are suggested for 18 levels belonging to the levels of the 3p 3, 3s 3p 3d and 3s 2 4p configurations. The lifetimes of these levels, as determined from conventional multi-exponential curve fitting of their intensity decay curves, are typically about 30% longer than is forecast by theory. The same decay curves have also been used to represent the effect of cascade repopulation on the decay curves obtained for the resonance doublet levels of the 3s 3p 2 and 3s 2 3d configurations. A discussion is given of the possible techniques for cascade correction in beam-foil lifetime measurements, and of the inclusion of a window function to represent the vignetting effect close to the foil. Lifetimes obtained using these techniques for the 3s 2 3d levels (38±6 ps for J=3/2, 36±5 ps for J=5/2), and the 3s3p 2 2 S level (99±6 ps),2 P levels (60±15 ps for J=1/2, 50±15 ps for J=3/2) and2 D levels (820±30 ps for j=3/2, 870±40 ps for J=5/2) are in good agreement with theoretical predictions.

Notes: Conclusions The proposed method offers the following advantages: a) high reactivity of the enzyme; b) need for small sample volume, thus absorption from suspended particles does not interfere and c) nearly complete solubilization of particle bound enzyme thus allowing automated analysis with the supernatant after centrifugation.
