Notes: New experiment systems that can offer electromechanical and electromagneticcoupling loads were established. Measurement skills and technologies under couplingloads have been developed. The experimental difficulties and technical problems, such as insulation, discharge, compressive testing of brittle ferroelectrics and so on,were well resolved. The constitutive experiments of piezo/ferroelectrics orferromagnetic materials were carried out. Moiré Interferometry was applied to themeasurement of transformation of the crack tip in ferroelectric ceramics undercoupling loads. The deformation concentration near the internal electrode tip causedby non-uniform electric field was investigated by means of Digital SpeckleCorrelation Method (DSCM). With an aim to accomplish both measurements ofconstitutive response of the magnetostrictive materials and the fracture experimentsof general soft ferromagnetic materials, a magnetomechanical-coupling testing setupwas established, which is controlled by an industrial PC. The software wasprogrammed to monitor the testing process and to deal with the acquired data. Thecharacteristic curves of ferromagnetic materials, such as TbxDy1-xFe2 alloys, weremeasured, including the hysteresis loops, the magnetostriction curve and stress-straincurve

Notes: Single-row layout is widely used within GT cells, in facilities that implement JIT, andsometimes with FMS. The three types of single-row layout, including linear, U-shape, andsemi-circular layout are introduced firstly. Based on the lower selling price of customers’ demand, the components of manufacturing cost are analyzed secondly. Then the relationship between themanufacturing cost and objectives of single-row layout are described. Meanwhile, the modelsrelated to several parts of manufacturing cost of single-row layout are set up respectively. Finally, the simulation of these models for three types of single-row layout is running in QUEST. Afteranalyzing the simulation results, conclusions are obtained: (1) area and labor utilization of linearlayout are higher than the others, (2) material handling cost of semi-circular is lowest among thesethree types of single-row layout, and (3) equipment utilization of them are almost the same. Thisresearch results will provide the references in selecting the types of single-row layout based onmanufacturing cost

Notes: Creep properties of polymer bonded explosives (PBXs), a particulate composite, wasstudied by using the method of moiré interferometry in this paper. The specimens fabricated bydifferent heat pressing technology were used. Extensive creep deformation of PBXs material wasindirectly measured by the aid of compressive circular disk test. The obtained results shown that creepproperties are greatly influenced by pressing pressures and temperature of heat pressing technology. The results indicated that the higher the temperature and the pressing pressure are in the heat pressingtechnology to some degree, the better the PBXs material creep resistance is. The creep fracturesurfaces of PBXs were also observed using Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM). It was shownthat most of the fracture crack was initiated and propagated along the explosives crystal surfaceduring creep

Notes: In this paper, the residual deformation induced in laser welding processing was studiedby using the moiré interferometry and a novel high-temperature specimen grating technology. Theexperimental results indicate that the heat-affected zone of laser welding is a narrow strip. Thereexists great residual strain gradient in the heat-affected zone, especially great residual shear straingradient. It implies that great residual stress and stress gradient exist near the welded seam. Therelationship between the size of the heat-affected zone and the changes of the technologyparameters were discussed in the experiments, which can supply some reliable experimental datafor optimizing processing technology

Notes: In this paper, a novel nano-moiré grating fabrication technique was proposed fornanometer deformation measurement. The grating fabrication process was performed with the aidof Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) on the basis of micro-fabrication technique. On the analysis ofsome correlative factors of influencing grating line quality, some important experimentalparameters were optimized. In this study, some parallel and cross nano-gratings with frequencies offrom 10000lines/mm to 20000lines/mm were fabricated. The successful experimental resultsdemonstrate that the nano-grating fabrication technique is feasible and also indicated that thesenano-gratings with nano-moiré method can be applied to deformation measurement, which offers ananometer sensitivity and spatial resolution

Notes: When machining aerospace monolithic components, most of materials could be removed, resulting in severe deformation of the parts due to the release and redistribution of the blank’s originalresidual stress, together with the action of cutting loads and clamping force. A finite element model(FEM) is built for predicting the deformation caused by those factors mentioned above. In this model, some key techniques such as material properties, initial residual stress model, and application ofdynamic cutting loads and transformation of boundary condition are discussed in details. Theproposed model predicts the machining deformation for multi-frame monolithic components.Particular attention is paid to the influence of the bulkhead processing sequence on part deformation. At last the paper puts forwards optimal bulkhead processing sequence based on minimizing themachining deformation

Notes: With the development of material science, especially as MEMS/NEMS are playing amore and more important role in modern engineering, some mechanical behaviors of materials, e.g.,fracture, shear instability, need to be investigated from multidisciplinary perspective. The moleculardynamics (MD) simulations are performed on single-crystal copper block under simple shear toinvestigate the size and strain rate effects on the mechanical responses of face-centered cubic (fcc)metals. It is shown that the yield stress decreases with the specimen size and increases with thestrain rate. Based on the theory of dislocation nucleation, a modified power law is proposed topredict the scaling behavior of fcc metals. In the MD simulations with different strain rates, acritical strain rate exists for each single-crystal copper block of given size, below which the yieldstress is nearly insensitive to the strain rate. A hyper-surface is therefore formulated to describe thecombined size and strain rate effects on the plastic yield stress of fcc metals

Notes: Facility layout plays an important role in the performance of manufacturing systems.Firstly, this paper describes the derivations and classification of facility layout problem (FLP). Theconcepts of static facility layout problem (SFLP), dynamic facility layout problem (DFLP) androbust layout problem are introduced, and their main performance characteristics are comparedwith each other. Then, the procedure of rearrangement costs in DFLP is proposed. Some maincharacteristics of SFLP and DFLP, DFLP and robust layout are compared respectively. Lastly, thedifference and connection among SFLP, DFLP and robust layout are analyzed. The research resultsindicate that the dynamic facility layout and robust layout are suitable for the dynamic andchangeable manufacturing systems. The method for development of DFLP and its implementationare presented based on SFLP and robust layout

Notes: In the modern manufacturing of sophisticated parts with 3D sculptured surfaces, die/moldmaking operations are the most widely used machining processes to remove unwanted material. Tomanufacture a die or a mold, many different cutting tools are involved, from hole-drills to the smallestball nose end mills. Since the specification of each tool is very different from each other, eachdie/mold is specific with their complicated shapes and many machining rules exist to consider, a greatdeal of expertise is needed in selecting cutting tools for the die/mold machining operations. Anintelligent system developed by using case-based reasoning (CBR) technology for this purpose isdescribed in the present work. The geometry of the workpiece, workpiece condition, and operationtype are considered as input values and various recommendations about the tool material, tool type, tool specifications, and cutting parameters are provided
