    Abstract: This book examines the nature and internal dynamics of China’s urban construction land (UCL) development, drawing insights from the recently developed theory of regional political ecology. Based on the author’s original research, it identifies two different types of UCL development in China, namely top-down, formal development in the legal and regulated domain, and spontaneous and informal, bottom-up development in the semi-legal, poorly regulated gray domain. Presenting a systematic analysis and comparison, it reveals a scale and speed of informal land development no less significant than that of formal land development, although informal land development tends to be scattered, pervasive, difficult to track, and largely overlooked in research and policy formation. Contrary to the popular perception of the peasantry as passive victims of land development, this book uncovers an intriguing dynamic in which the peasantry has played an increasingly (pro)active role in developing their rural land for urban uses in informal markets. Further, based on an investigation of UCL development in Beijing and Shenzhen, it shows an interesting trajectory in which the uneven growth and utilization of UCL are contingent upon the various developmental milieus in different places. China’s land institutions, based on an urban–rural dual land system, are not conducive to the ultimate goal of saving and efficiently utilizing land. Accordingly, an urban–rural integrated land market and management system is highly advisable. The theoretical and empirical enquiry presented challenges the perceived notion of China’s UCL development as the outcome of market demand and state supply. Further, it argues for an inclusive treatment of the informality that has characterized urbanization in many developing countries, and for a reassessment of the role played by the peasantry in land-based urbanization. .

    Description: Completely autotrophic nitrogen removal over nitrite (CANON) has been regarded as an efficient and economical process for nitrogen removal from wastewater. The distribution and genetic diversity of the functional microorganisms in five lab-scale CANON reactors have been investigated by using some molecular biology methods. Nitrosomonas-like aerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria (AerAOB) and Candidatus Brocadia-related anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria (AnAOB) were detected as predominant functional microbes in the five reactors while Nitrobacter-like nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) existed only in the systems operated at ambient temperature. Communities of AerAOB and AnAOB were almost similar among the five reactors while the distribution of the functional microbes was either scattered or densely packed. Meanwhile, this study has demonstrated the feasibility of starting up CANON by inoculating conventional activated sludge in low ammonium content at ambient temperature.

Die Arzt-Patient-Interaktionen fanden 2019 am Peking Union Medical College-Hospital (PUMCH) in Peking (VR China) statt. Die teilnehmenden Ärzte und Ärztinnen waren in Bezug auf Berufserfahrung, Spezialisierungsgrad, Fachsprache, Alter, Geschlecht und Migrationserfahrung divers. Diese Merkmale liegen als Fragebogendaten vor. Die Studie verwendete zwei Skripte für die SPs: Ein Fall von systolischer Herzinsuffizienz – für die eine Standardbehandlung verfügbar ist – wurde von 60-jährigen männlichen SPs dargestellt; ein Fall von diastolischer Herzinsuffizienz – für die die Behandlungsrichtlinien weniger klar sind – wurde von 80-jährigen weiblichen SPs gespielt. The doctor-patient-interaction took place 2019 at Beijing Union Medical College-Hospital (PUMCH) in Beijing (PRChina). Participating physicians were diverse in terms of professional experience, degree of specialization, professional language, age, gender and migration experience. These characteristics are available as questionnaire data. The study employed two scrips for simulated patients: a case of systolic heart failure – for which a standard treatment is available – was enacted by 60-year-old male SPs; a case of diastolic heart failure – for which treatment guidelines are less clear – was enacted by 80-year-old female SPs. The core of the data set consists of videos, transcripts in English and Mandarin as well as partial translations to English for the Mandarin language cases. Some sequences were transferred to ELAN. The data set enables the study of professional knowledge and practise in an intercultural and transnationally comparative perspective. It is relevant for applied research in medical education and for foundational research in the sociology of knowledge and conversation analysis. The sociology of medicine, social studies of science and medicine, sociology of professions, and migration research are sub-disciplines that might profit from reusing the data.

Regulation of the vertebrate actin multigene family involves the recognition of various regulatory sequences (cis-acting elements) that specify the distinct tissue type and developmental program of expression for each actin paralogue, which implies that the distribution of cis-acting elements may be unique for each paralogue gene. To elucidate the evolution of these unique distribution patterns, we improved a method to scan for cis-acting elements in the 5′ flanking regulatory region of genes and used it to analyze five cis-acting elements (SRE, MyoD binding site, Elk-1 binding site, positive and negative YY1 binding sites) of six actin paralogue genes (β and γ cytoplasmic actins, α and γ smooth muscle actins, and α skeletal and α cardiac actins) among various vertebrates. It was shown that although an element(s) may exist in all paralogue genes of the same species, its numbers, compositions, and distribution patterns or even sequences vary remarkably among paralogues, which contributes to their different tissue- and developmental-specific expression. However, each pair of coexpressed paralogues has some certain similarity in distribution patterns. Furthermore, among various orthologues of actin genes derived from diverse vertebrates, the sequences, numbers, and distribution patterns of these cis-acting elements are highly conserved or even identical in the long run of phylogeny of vertebrates. Taken together, the results described above strongly indicate that not only the structures of actins but also their expression patterns are essential in both the phylogeny and the physiology of vertebrates. The distribution patterns of cis-acting elements of various actin genes can be regarded as indicators of both horizontal (paralogous) and vertical (orthologous) evolution of actins.

    Notes: The Bi0.5(Na0.7K0.2Li0.1)0.5TiO3 powder synthesis through molten salt method was investigatedin the temperature range of 650 ~ 700°C for 2 ~ 4h.     Notes: High concentrated hydrochloric/nitric/sulfuric acid were used to dissolve Ti(OH)4produced with TiOSO4. It was found that, titania, from pure rutile phase to anatase-rutile mixedphase to pure anatase phase have been synthesized at low temperature in liquid media throughcontrolling the hydrolyzation conditions. The phase composition and the special surface area ofnanometer titania powder were characterized by means of XRD and BET. The K-edge fine structureof Ti atom sites of rutile TiO2 was investigated with grazing incidence reflection mode XAFS(EXAFS and XANES) spectroscopy. The well-crystal rutile TiO2 with fine particle size and highspecific surface (above200m2/g) was formed at low temperature below 80°C, while the anataseTiO2 was formed at higher temperature in hydrochloric or nitric acid solution. But in sulfuric acidsolution the crystal phase was always anatase at any temperatures. The EXAFS and XANES resultshowed that the order of the lattice, the coordination numbers of the Ti atom for the first shell, thesecond shell and the third shell as well as the relative intensity of K-preedge three peaks increasedwith the increase of the rutile TiO2 nanoparticle size

The effects of double atoms filling on the structure and lattice thermalconductivity of skutterudite compounds were investigated.     Notes: Biofilm formation and the adsorption of nonsulfate-reducing marine bacterium Vibrionatriegens (V. natriegen) to different metallic surfaces have been studied by atomic forcemicroscopy (AFM). The nature of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) has been monitoredthrough the force-distance curve. EPS may act as adhesive binding adjacent cells and thus furtherenhance the aggregation of microbes during cluster formation due to its adhesiveness in nature. TheAFM images supply the change of the morphology of microbial cells and colonies, the distributionof microbial colonies and the presence of EPS on the surfaces with immersion. Results show thatthe biofilms formed on the surfaces increase in thickness and heterogeneity with time and that 3~7days is the proliferation period of the bacteria on metallic surfaces. The corrosion type of the metalsby V. natriegens could be confirmed as typical pitting attack through scanning electron microscopy(SEM) observation

    Notes: A novel super-hydrophobic film was prepared by myristic acid (CH3(CH2)12COOH) chemicallyadsorbed onto the polyethyleneimine (PEI) coated Fe3Al-type intermetallic wafer. The film characterand structure were probed with contact angle measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) andatomic force microscope (AFM). The results suggest that the structure of the film is similar to lotusand the seawater contact angle is larger than 150◦. Moreover, the corrosion resistances of untreatedand modified samples in seawater were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). Experimental results show that the corrosion rate of Fe3Al-type intermetallic withsuper-hydrophobic surface decreases dramatically because of its special microstructure

    Notes: In terms with the natural structure and property of microbe film, microbe film wassimulated by Calcium Alginate gel Acetic acid, manganese dioxide, sodium sulfide were addedseparately into sodium chloride solution to simulate different bacteria culture systems.
