Notes: A new free-electron laser (FEL) scheme, using a periodic electrostatic field superposed on an electrostatic centrifugal system, is presented. By means of linear fluid theory, the Raman FEL dispersion equation is derived. We show that there is a new FEL instability near the electron transverse resonance besides the usual one near the beam resonance. The operating conditions, emission frequencies, and maximum growth rates of these two kinds of instabilities are obtained analytically. It is found that these results are in quite good agreement with numerical solutions of the dispersion equation.

Notes: The linear theory of electrostatic electron cyclotron resonance maser (EECRM) is given in this paper. Starting from the fundamental concept, we obtained the perturbed equation of relativistic electron motion in an electrostatic centrifugal system, and the dispersion equation for both TEmn and TMmn modes of the EECRM have been derived with detailed discussion for the infinitely thin beam layer. The nonrelativistic case has also been studied. Digital calculations show that the dispersion curves of the EECRM are similar in shape to that of the conventional electron cyclotron resonance maser (MECRM) and the magnitude of growth rate of the EECRM is comparable with that of MECRM. Although the dispersion equation of EECRM contains a special kind of singularity [ω−k(parallel)v(parallel)−(m±(2−β2⊥)1/2) ω0 =0], the relevant instability within the parameter region of our calculations in this paper has not yet been found; this problem remains to be studied in the future.

Notes: The first experimental demonstration of the physical mechanism underlying multi-electron-beam Cherenkov free-electron lasers has been carried out. Electron beams of a total beam current of 280 A at 500 kV were introduced into a multi-dielectric cavity and stimulated Cherenkov radiation of 1.7 MW at 33.4 GHz was generated. The interaction efficiency was about 1.2%.

Notes: Abstract Waveguides with inner dielectric cylinder(s) for Cerenkov free electron laser are presented. An analysis on the dispersion relations and the distributions of the axial electric field components of the waveguide modes, which are important to determine the operating frequency and gain, has been carried out. The results show that the waveguides can be employed to generate radiations at lower millimeter wavelength with higher gain and larger power output.

Notes: Abstract Suspended stripline on magnetized ferrite and anisotropic dielectric substrates are examined here. The spectral domain immittance approach was used for obtaining the dyadic Green's functions in the Fourier transform domain. Galerkin's method was used to obtain the dispersion characteristics of the dominant mode, and the curves for a few cases are shown as examples which could be used in designing isolators, phase shifters, and directional couplers.

Notes: Abstract Under the condition of considering the plasma electrons redistribution and ion channel and the transverse oscillating of the beam after the REB incident, the dispersion equation of corrugated waveguide filled with plasma was obtained in this paper, its expressions under several conditions were also given. The results showed that whether consider these factors or not, the results would be quite different.

Notes: Abstract The focusing properties of high energy electron beam in ion channel is investigated in the paper. The collisions of electrons with the neutral gas and the ionization resulted are considered to study the formation of ion channels with PIC method. Notes: Abstract A special quasi-optical power combining system of millimeter wave has been proposed and developed in this paper. It can be classified into two categories: power combiner of a Multiple oscillators and power combiner of a Multiple device oscillation. The combining condition, the input and output coupling factor and combining coefficient are treated, based field theory of guided-wave and an eigenfunction approach for active microwave circuit respectively. The validity of the descriptions given for this combining has already been experimentally verified.

Notes: Abstract The effect of three-dimensional perturbed velocity and three-dimensional perturbed current density on the beam-wave interaction of dielectric Cherenkov maser is analysed by use of the self-consistent linear field theory. Three distinct cases are considered. First, the propagation of the electron beam in an annular dielectric liner enclosed by a loss-free conducting wall is investigated. The dispersion equation and the simultaneous condition of the beam-wave interaction are derived. It's clearly shown that the instability of the interaction results from the coupling of the TM mode in the dielectric lined slow-wave waveguide to the beam mode via the electron beam. And the coupling is proportional to the density of the beam. The growth rate of the wave produced by the electron beam are obtained. Then, the case of a relativistic electron beam guided by a longitudinal magnetic field in the same slow-wave structure is examined. The motion of electrons could be approximated to be one-dimensional when the simultaneous condition of the beam-wave interaction of dielectric Cherenkov maser is satisfied. Finally, the effect of the background plasma on the instability of the beam-wave interaction is studied.
