Description:
We show that the propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse inside a photonic structure can be directly visualized and tracked as it propagates using a time-resolved photon scanning tunneling microscope. From the time-dependent and phase-sensitive measurements, both the group velocity and the phase velocity are unambiguously and simultaneously determined. It is expected that this technique will find applications in the investigation of the local dynamic behavior of photonic crystals and integrated optical circuits.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Balistreri, M L -- Gersen, H -- Korterik, J P -- Kuipers, L -- van Hulst, N F -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 2001 Nov 2;294(5544):1080-2.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Applied Optics group, Department of Applied Physics and MESA(+) Research Institute, University of Twente, Post Office Box 217, 7500 AE Enschede, Netherlands.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11691986" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
