Description / Table of Contents: Diacetylhydrazine, CH3CONH—NHCOCH3, and mercuric acetamide, CH3CONH—Hg—NHCOCH3, react in aqueous, not alkaline solutions yielding mercuric diacethydrazide, Hg(NCOCH3)2, and acetamide. There is evidence for a chain-structure of the mercuric diacethydrazide from X-ray and infrared investigations. The mercuration of mercuric acetamide with mercuric acetate and pyridine in aqueous solutions or with mercuric oxyde in the melt failed. The mercuration is successful by heating to 220 - 240°C. Under this circumstances the formation of acetamide, metallic mercury and diacethydrazide was observed; the latter compound is mercurated not only at the nitrogen- but also at the carbon-atoms.
