Summary 1. Approximate geometric similarity has been experimentally established for the minimum amount of stemming resulting in the formation of an underground cavity upon explosion of a cylindrical charge. 2. With increase in the amount of stemming (up to a certain limit) the radius of the cavity increases linearly. Experiments have established that, other things being equal, the volume of the underground cylindrical cavity is greater than the volume of the cavity obtained without stemming (at H=0) by a factor of 2.2.
