Notes:
Summary A description of the working conditions in the “Tierhygienisches Institut”, (institute for animal hygienics) is given and the peculiarity of biological material is pointed out (for example: fluorine content in the rib of a cow). Toxicological analyses are carried out besides the usual clinic-chemical works. Special attention has to be given to the preparation of the material for analysis. The dependence of the preparatory operations on temperature and time of storage and their influence on the content of total phosphorus, inorganic phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and alkaline phosphatase of the serum has been examined. The range of physiological variability and that concerning the apparatus, is discussed. By means of examples the possibility is shown of limiting more and more the physiological variability. E.g., the determination of the calcium content of blood serum can be used for conclusions on the mineral salt supply for the cattle. The experiments resulted in the conclusion, that it is possible, to limit analytically the physiological variability and to ascertain the binding form of important elements. It is urgently proposed to work out standard methods and to become engaged in the documentation of test reaction methods and of standard values.
