Summary Fat emulsions for parenteral nutrition contain phospholipids of different quantity and quality. They are substrates of lecithin-cholesterol-acyltransferase (LCAT). Two fat emulsions commonly used in parenteral nutrition with different emulsifiers (Intralipid 10 %, emulsified with egg phospholipid, and Lipofundin S 10 %, emulsified with soya phospholipid) were infused into six healthy volunteers. The products of the LCAT reaction were determined in serum lipoprotein fraction d〉1.063. Lecithin (16%) as well as lysolecithin (30 %) increased by the same amount during a 4-h infusion of each fat emulsion. The concentrations of lecithin and lysolecithin were still with in normal ranges after infusion. The percentage of linoleic acid in cholesterol esters in d〉1.063 fraction remained unchanged during infusion of soya phospholipids and decreased 5 % during infusion of egg phospholipids. The results indicate an equal LCAT activation by both fat emulsions in man.

Zusammenfassung Fettemulsionen für die parenterale Ernährung enthalten als Emulgatoren Phospholipide in unterschiedlicher Menge und Zusammensetzung, die auch von der Lecithin-Cholesterin-Acyltransferase (LCAT) umgesetzt werden. Zwei in der parenteralen Ernährung gebräuchliche Fettemulsionen mit unterschiedlichen Emulgatoren (Intralipid 10 %® mit Eiphosphatid und Lipofundin S 10 %® mit Sojaphosphatid) wurden 6 gesunden, männlichen Versuchspersonen infundiet und die Produkte der LCAT-Reaktion in der Serumlipoproteinfraktion der Dichte d〉1,063 erfaßt. Sowohl der Gehalt an Lecithin (16 %) als auch der an Lysolecithin (30 %) steigt während 4 Stunden Infusion mit den beiden Fettemulsionen gleich an. Die Konzentrationen von Lecithin und Lysolecithin liegen aber auch nach den Infusionen im normalen Bereich. Der Anteil der Linolsäure in den Cholesterinestern bleibt während Infusion von Sojaphosphatid konstant und fällt während Infusion von Eiphosphatid um 5 % ab. Die Ergebnisse deuten auf eine gleiche Aktivierung der LCAT beim Menschen durch beide Emulsionen hin.
