    Abstract: This book aims to establish a wind energy evaluation system, to provide scientific reference for site selection, daily operation and long-term planning of wind power generation, thus to make contribution to breaking the shackles of power shortage. Firstly, it presents the advantages and disadvantages of offshore wind power, then further discusses about the status quo and challenges for wind power programs along the Maritime Silk Road and offer suggestions. A wind energy evaluation system was proposed with the Maritime Silk Road as a case study, including climatic features of wind power (temporal-spatial distribution), long-term climatic trend and mechanism, short-term forecast of wind energy, mid- and long-term projection of wind energy, technology of wind energy evaluation on key point or vital region and offshore wind energy dataset construction, to provide systematic and scientific reference for wind power evaluation and utilization. This book is one of the series of publications on 21st century Maritime Silk Road (shortened as “Maritime Silk Road”). It covers the characteristics of the marine environment and marine renewable energy, remote islands and reefs construction, climate change, early warning of wave disasters, legal escort, marine environment and energy big data construction, etc., contributing to the safe and efficient construction of the Maritime Silk Road. It aims to improve our knowledge of the ocean, thus, to improve the capacity for marine construction, enhance the viability of remote islands and reefs, ease the energy crisis and protect the ecological environment, improve the quality of life of residents along the Maritime Silk Road, and protect the rights, interests of the countries and regions participating in the construction of the Maritime Silk Road. It is a valuable reference for decision-makers, researchers, and marine engineers working in the related fields.

    Description: This is the second part of a three-part paper on North American climate in phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) that evaluates the twentieth-century simulations of intraseasonal to multidecadal variability and teleconnections with North American climate. Overall, the multimodel ensemble does reasonably well at reproducing observed variability in several aspects, but it does less well at capturing observed teleconnections, with implications for future projections examined in part three of this paper. In terms of intraseasonal variability, almost half of the models examined can reproduce observed variability in the eastern Pacific and most models capture the midsummer drought over Central America. The multimodel mean replicates the density of traveling tropical synoptic-scale disturbances but with large spread among the models. On the other hand, the coarse resolution of the models means that tropical cyclone frequencies are underpredicted in the Atlantic and eastern North Pacific. The frequency and mean amplitude of ENSO are generally well reproduced, although teleconnections with North American climate are widely varying among models and only a few models can reproduce the east and central Pacific types of ENSO and connections with U.S. winter temperatures. The models capture the spatial pattern of Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) variability and its influence on continental temperature and West Coast precipitation but less well for the wintertime precipitation. The spatial representation of the Atlantic multidecadal oscillation (AMO) is reasonable, but the magnitude of SST anomalies and teleconnections are poorly reproduced. Multidecadal trends such as the warming hole over the central–southeastern United States and precipitation increases are not replicated by the models, suggesting that observed changes are linked to natural variability.

    Description: El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a naturally occurring mode of tropical Pacific variability, with global impacts on society and natural ecosystems. While it has long been known that El Niño events display a diverse range of amplitudes, triggers, spatial patterns, and life cycles, the realization that ENSO’s impacts can be highly sensitive to this event-to-event diversity is driving a renewed interest in the subject. This paper surveys our current state of knowledge of ENSO diversity, identifies key gaps in understanding, and outlines some promising future research directions.

    Notes: The magnetic camera using magnetic lens is proposed to satisfy the demands such asobtaining the distribution of the magnetic flux leakage (DMFL) on the high lift-off, and improvingsensitivity. However, DMFL is strongly affected by the magnetization direction. Therefore, theDMFL has low intensity when the crack is not perpendicular to the magnetizing direction. Also,quantitative nondestructive evaluation would be difficult. This paper proposes an improvedmagnetization method to evaluate a crack quantitatively, regardless of the crack direction. Thesecondary magnetic source, which is perpendicular to the primary magnetic source, is introduced inthe scan type magnetic camera. The intensity of two values of ∂B/∂x (1st differential to themagnetization direction) of the DMFL can be used to evaluate the crack volume. The experimentaland the numerical analysis results are considered to verify this phenomenon

    Notes: Magnetic-optical film (hereafter, MO film) is a bismuth-doped iron garnet film grown on agadolinium gallium garnet substrate by liquid phase epitaxial method. Because an MO film hasphysical characteristics such as Faraday rotation and magnetic anisotropy, the distribution of itsexternal magnetic field can be visualized. The MOI (Magneto-Optic/Eddy Current Imager) wasdeveloped to detect far-side cracks and corrosions in aluminum alloy materials on an aircraft. Thedetection probability of 2.5mm-length cracks is 90/95% when the MO film and the induced areacurrent are used. However, the quantitative evaluation algorithm for quantifying crack shapes andsizes has yet to be proposed. This paper investigates a quantitative evaluation algorithm for magneticoptical eddy current imaging by using the finite element analysis methods (FEM) and experimentalresults. The MOI including a primary induction coil was simulated by FEM software. The position,depth, shape, and the induction current frequency, lift-off were simulated and examined. A simplifiedquantitative evaluation algorithm for MOI is proposed by using the analysis results

    Notes: We analyzed the effects of several process variables on removal efficiencies of NO andSO2 by the low temperature plasma process combined with photocatalysts. The cylinder-wire type,dielectric barrier discharge process for plasma generation was used. The photocatalysts were coatedonto the glass beads by dip-coating method. As the voltage applied to the plasma reactor increases,or as the pulse frequency of applied voltage increases, the NO and SO2 removal efficiencies alsoincrease.     Notes: Abstract In this paper we show that Ω(n) variables are needed for first-order logic with counting to identify graphs onn vertices. Thek-variable language with counting is equivalent to the (k−1)-dimensional Weisfeiler-Lehman method. We thus settle a long-standing open problem. Previously it was an open question whether or not 4 variables suffice. Our lower bound remains true over a set of graphs of color class size 4. This contrasts sharply with the fact that 3 variables suffice to identify all graphs of color class size 3, and 2 variables suffice to identify almost all graphs. Our lower bound is optimal up to multiplication by a constant becausen variables obviously suffice to identify graphs onn vertices.

    Notes: Abstract Purpose. The in vitro and in situ transport of CGP 65015 ((+)-3-hydroxy-1-(2-hydroxyethyl) -2-hydroxyphenyl-methyl-1 H-pyridin-4-one), a novel oral iron chelator, is described. The predictive power of these data in assessing intestinal absorption in man is described. Methods. Caco-2 epithelial monolayer and in situ rat jejunum perfusion intestinal permeability models were utilized. In vivo iron excretion and preliminary animal pharmacokinetic experiments were described, lonization constants and octanol/aqueous partition coefficients were measured potentiometrically. Solubilities and intrinsic dissolution rates were determined using standard procedures. Results. Caco-2 cell (Papp ∼ 0.25 X 10−6 cm.s−1) and rat jejunum (Pw ∼ 0.4) permeabilities of CGP 65015 were determined. The log D(pH 7.4) of CGP 65015 was 0.58 and its aqueous solubility was 〉 0.5 mg.ml−1 (pH 3−9). The intrinsic dissolution rate of CGP 65015 in USP simulated intestinal fluid was 0.012 mg.min−1.cm−2. CGP 65015 promotes iron excretion effectively and dose dependently in animals. Conclusions. Caco-2 and rat intestinal permeabilities predict incomplete oral absorption of CGP 65015 in man. Preliminary rat pharmacokinetics support this. Physico-chemical data are, also, in line and suggest that CGP 65015 may, in addition, be solubility/dissolution rate limited in vivo. Nevertheless, early animal pharmacological data demonstrate that CGP 65015 is a viable oral iron chelator candidate.
