    Description / Table of Contents: Sommaire Le blocage de la flexion de l'articulation du genou dans cette prothèse peut être accompli à l'aide d'un embrayage mécanique relâché par un pouls de contrôle qui à son tour est dérivé d'une activité myoélectrique du moignon du patient. Cette caractéristique permet à l'amputé d'user la jambe artificielle comme un point de réaction pour ses muscles résiduels. Il devient possible de monter les escaliers et les rampes en utilisant la prothèse, à l'aide d'une articulation mécanique qui, quand elle est bloquée, ne peut plus ètre fléchie, mais qui est néanmoins libre de s'étendre sous le contrôle du patient. La prothèse décrite dans ce mémoire utilise un système de contrôle plutôt original. On utilise une détente par puls au lieu de l'intégration du pouls. Un dispositif logique inhibe le système de détection, du moment que le blocage du genous se produit; le systèmme entier est automatiquement remis en fonction aussitôt que le patient étend complèment la jambe artificielle. Un patient peut être instruit en quelques heures d'utiliser la jambe pour monter des marches.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Sperrung der Flexion des Kniegelenkes in dieser Knieprothese kann mittels einer mechanischen Kupplung erreicht werden, welche von einem Kontrollimpuls ausgelöst wird, welcher seinerseits von der muskelelektrischen Tätigkeit des Stumpfs vom Patienten abgeleitet wird. Die Einrichtung versetzt den Amputierten in den Stand, das künstliche Bein als einen Reaktionspunkt für seine übriggebliebenen Muskeln zu benutzen. Das Aufsteigen von Treppen und Rampen mit der Prothese wird durch Gebrauch eines mechanischen Kniegelenks möglich gemacht, das, wenn gesperrt, nicht weiter gebeugt werden kann, das aber weiter frei ist, sich unter Kontrolle des Patienten zu strecken. Die, in diesem Bericht beschriebene Prothese verwendet ein ziemlich ungewöhnliches Kontrollsystem. Impulsanstoss wird an Stelle von Impulsintegration benutzt. Eine logische Vorrichtung hält das Spürsystem zurück, sobald der Knieverschluss erfolgt ist. Das ganze System wird automatisch wieder eingestellt, sobald der Patient das künstlichen Bein völlig ausstreckt. Ein Patient kann trainiert werden, in einer Sache von Stunden das Bein zum Steigen von Treppen zu benutzen.
    Notes: Abstract Locking of the flexion of the knee-joint in this knee prosthesis can be accomplished by means of a mechanical clutch released by a control pulse which, in turn, is derived from the myolectric activity of the patient's stump. The feature enables the amputee to use the artificial leg as a reaction point for his residual muscles. Ascending stairs and ramps using the prosthesis is made possible by the use of a mechanical knee-joint which, when locked, cannot be flexed any more, but is still free to extend under the patient's control. The prosthesis described in this paper employs a rather unconventional control system. Pulse triggering, instead of pulse integration, is used. A logic device inhibits the detection system once the knee lock has occurred; the whole system is automatically re-set as soon as the patient fully extends the artificial leg. A patient can be trained to use the leg for climibing stairs in a matter of hours.

    Notes: Abstract We have studied the interrelation of left ventricle and arterial system in the anesthetized open-thorax cat. The ventricle was characterized by its pump function graph, relating mean ventricular pressure ( $$\bar P_{lv}$$ ) and mean aortic flow ( $$\bar F$$ ). The pump function graph was determined by means of an artificial periphery and on a beat-to-beat basis. The periphery was characterized by relating mean aortic pressure ( $$\bar P_{ao}$$ ) and mean flow. Mean aortic and mean left ventricular pressure could be related over a wide range of values by a proportionality factor $$\bar P_{ao} = a \cdot \bar P_{lv}$$ . In a series of five separate experiments a value of a=1.72±0.14 (mean±SD) was found. This simplified relation allows direct comparison of apparent source resistance (i.e., slope of pump function graph), (Rs), and peripheral resistance (Rp). It was also found experimentally that total external power ( $$\bar \dot w$$ ) could be calculated from mean aortic pressure and mean flow as well as from mean left ventricular pressure and mean flow (thus from the pump function graph) by $$\bar \dot w = c \cdot \bar P_{ao} \cdot \bar F = c \cdot a \cdot \bar P_{lv} \cdot \bar F$$ . The value of c=1.16±0.12 (mean±SD, n=4). Maximum external power was predicted for $$R_p /R_s = \bar P_{ao} /\bar P_{lv} = a$$ . In six different cats Rp/Rs ratio in the working point (i.e., mean left ventricular pressure and mean flow when the normal periphery loaded the heart) was found to be Rp/Rs=2.63±0.92. This value could not be shown to differ from that in the point where maximal external power was found, i.e., Rp/Rs=1.81±0.08 (n=6).

    Notes: Abstract The equilibrium betweenF- andM-center concentration in KCl after X-irradiation at temperatures between 77 °K and 298 °K has been studied. At low temperatures (〈200 °K) onlyF-centers which are formed statistically as nearest neighbours give aM-center. At higher temperaturesF-centers within a certain sphere of interaction with a radiusr formM-centers. The temperature dependance of this radiusr has been evaluated. The equilibrium constantK depends on the temperature in the form K=K0exp(-Q/kT). The activation energy was determined to be Q=(0.5±0.1) eV.

    Notes: Abstract A description of preparation for samples of niobium nitride without and with admixtures of titanium, zirconium and tantalum by diffusion of nitrogen under pressure into niobium wires without and with admixtures of titanium, zirconium and tantalum respectively, is given. For samples of pure niobium nitride with different compositions the influence of the nitrogen content on the transition temperature to superconductivity has been investigated with the result of a transition temperature not exceeding 16.5 °K even for the stoichiometric composition NbN. This is in contrary to other authors. For diffusion wires of the systems (Nb-Ti)N x , (Nb-Zr)N x and (Nb-Ta)N x the critical temperature, lattice parameter and nitrogen content as a function of the admixture of titanium, zirconium and tantalum respectively, are given. For the first time the magnetisation curve of niobium nitride has been measured showing the behaviour of type II superconductors. Concerning the kinetics of formation of niobium nitride by diffusion the nitrogen content is increasing for constant nitrogen pressure with raising temperature of diffusion, but is decreasing in the high temperature region.

    Notes: Abstract Critical field curves and quenching curves for a variety of type II superconductors of B1 (NaCl type) and A15 (β-W type) compounds have been measured. The critical field curves have been evaluated for the pertinent parameters of type II super-conductivity. Comparison of the shape of the critical field curves and their initial slope with recent theories by Helfand and Werthamer results in a good agreement.
