Notes: Abstract A model for a bound quark-antiquark system is constructed from quark spinor equations and the associated pseudoscalar massless interaction potential equations in a way departing from conventional relativistic quantum mechanics. From the so-constructed covariant meson equations, linear confinement arises naturally. Nonlinear radial equations for the pseudoscalar and vector mesons in the rest frame are derived without approximation. An internal complex space is introduced for representation of the quark flavors. Quark masses are generalized to operators operating on functions in this space. A simple model is proposed for the meson internal functions and mass operators producing the squares of the average quark masses as eigenvalues. The present space-time model calls for a particle classification scheme different from the usual nonrelativistic one. When combined with the internal model, it may account for the gross structure of the meson spectra together with the form of an empirical relation. Upper limits of bare quark masses are estimated from simplified analytical solutions of the radial equations and agree approximately with the bare quark masses obtained from baryon data in a companion paper. The radial equations are solved numerically yielding estimates of the strong interaction radii of the ground state mesons.

Notes: Abstract Hadron magnetic moments are considered in the framework of the spinor strong interaction theory for hadron spectra proposed by the author. Expressions of magnetic moments of ground-state hadrons are derived. These differ from the conventional ones in that they are no longer phenomenological and are basically relativistic. Pseudoscalar mesons have no magnetic moment. Charged vector meson magnetic moment values are given. The magnetic moment operators operate in the internal space, so that the ground-state octet baryons have the same spin-space symmetry, including the A. A formula for the ground-state octet baryon magnetic moment is derived from the basic spinor strong interaction baryon equations previously given, essentially without approximation and in a way analogous to the way in which the electron magnetic moment is derived.

Notes: Abstract Quantum theory andSU 3 classification of hadrons are partially unified and are extended to produce a single formalism. The theory accounts for the possibility that a number of different hardrons can be exchanged between two quarks without explicitly assuming their masses and quantum numbers. Quantization of the theory leads to the conclusion that a quark has spin 1/2 but obeys Bose statistics and naturally accounts for the relation between spin and statistics for the baryon decuplet.

Notes: Abstract The recently developed spinor strong interaction theory, which successfully accounts for linear confinement and classification of mesons as well as unmixed meson spectra, is applied to semileptonic decays of the π,K, D, andB mesons. These mesons themselves generate massM w for the mediating gauge boson; no Higgs boson is needed. The theory is also applied to purely leptonic interactions. It is shown that the results of the standard electroweak model can be taken over with the Higgs boson replaced by the above mesons. The Cabbibo angle ϑC is given by tan ϑC=(pion mass)/(kaon mass), in agreement with data. The pion decay constantF is essentially a ratio between two large constants introduced to make certain infinite integrals finite.M w is also related to a similar cutoff constant.

Notes: Abstract An expression for the decay rate Γ(π0 γγ) has been derived in the frameworkof the spinor strong interaction theory, a first-principles strong interaction theoryproposed some years ago as an alternative to low-energy QCD. The startingpoint is the SO(3) gauge-invariant action for two quark mesons which has beensuccessful in accounting for confinement, π+ → μ+ ν, e+ν, and π0 e+ν, nonexistenceof the Higgs boson, and other low-energy mesonic phenomena. The quasi-four-quarkmeson equations developed for the decay of a vector meson into twopseudoscalar mesons V → PP has been taken over here to apply to P(π0) →VV(ρ+ ρ−) → γγ(plus π+ and π− which annihilate each other). This mechanismin principle agrees with that of the assumption of vector meson dominance inthe literature. It, together with the effect of form factors, arises naturally in theformalism and need not be assumed. Equations for the perturbed vector mesonwave functions cannot be simply solved and an assumption has been made toobtain an estimate of their magnitude. Together with a constant associated withthe strong coupling obtained earlier from V(ϕ) → PP(K+K−), the estimated decayrate is 19.2 eV, in order-of-magnitude agreement with data (7.74 eV).

Notes: Abstract The free-particle Dirac wave functionψ(x) has been generalized toψ(x)Ξ a (z). Here,z denotes a set of three complex coordinates, called internal coordinates, in an abstract complex three-dimensional space, called internal space;a runs from 1 to 3; and Ξ a (z) is assumed to contain a representation of the state of a quark triplet. The mass in the free-particle Dirac equation is replaced by a second-order operator ∂ a b operating on Ξ a (z). The Dirac equation so modified is assumed to include a description of a free quark triplet. Subsequently, symmetry-preserving interactions between two quark triplets are introduced. TwoSU 3 symmetry-breaking interactions, one transforming like the eighth component of anSU 3 octet vector and the other like theSU 3 charge operator, are also introduced. A similarly generalized Bethe-Salpeter equation in the ladder approximation was obtained. This equation has been treated in greater detail in an accompanying paper in which the Gell-Mann-Okubo formula for psuedoscalar mesons was derived with the coefficients determined by given relations. Then, spherical coordinates and corresponding spherical harmonics in the internal space are introduced. Finally, the equation for a one-quark system is briefly treated.

Notes: Abstract From an isospin SU(2) × hypercharge U(1)gauge-invariant meson action for K+,π+ π+υ, a prediction ofthe Cabbibo angle was obtained earlier. Using anotherresult of the spinor strong interaction theory that the s quark is only a littleheavier than the d quark, the above action can beextended to a weakly broken SU(3) one. The Weinbergangle is found to be 30° in the limit of this SU(3)symmetry. In the approximation and context entailing thislimit, the Weinberg angle can be removed from the listof undetermined fundamental parameters in electroweaktheory. The spinor strong interaction Lagrangian used above and applied to the decayπ+ → e+υ is shown tohold for π+ →π0e+υ as well, renderingthe conserved vector current hypothesis hithertorequired to account for the latter decaysuperfluous.

Notes: Abstract The spinor strong interaction model recently proposed by the author to account for meson spectra is applied to baryons. Quark-quark strong interaction is of massless scalar type. Harmonic confinement arises as naturally as linear confinement for mesons. No approximation is needed in order to derive, from the proposed covariant spinor baryon equations, coupled nonlinear radial equations for the ground-state spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 baryons in the rest frame. These equations are effectively of sixth order and call for a particle classification other than the usual unrelativistic one. Simplified analytical solutions are given. Internal functions and mass operators are analogously introduced. With these and the above simplified space-time solution, baryon data yield bare quark masses that agree approximately with those analogously obtained earlier from meson data.

Notes: Abstract The meson wave function in the spinor stronginteraction theory is uniquely normalized on dimensionalgrounds, thus bypassing the fundamental problems in thenormalization of Klein-Gordon (KG) and Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes for mesons. While the KG amplitudeis proportional to 1/√E, the present meson wavefunction is not and is thus flavor-independent. Theconfinement term is inactive for free mesons, but isactivated when interacting with another hadron or chargedlepton. The theory is applied to the strong decay of atwo-quark vector meson into two pseudoscalar mesons V→ PP. The so-obtained and estimated decay rates are consistent with data, as are the ratios ofthese rates to the corresponding radiative decay V→ Pγ rates. These decay rates indicate apossible connection of the strong quark-quark couplingαs with the electromagnetic coupling alpha viaαs = α1/4 = 0.2923.Contrary to the standard electroweak model (SM), theelectromagnetic and weak couplings are detached fromeach other in connection with the absence of Higgs bosons, without altering the main results of the SM.

Notes: Abstract The spinor strong interaction theory recentlydeveloped is applied to the radiative decay of atwo-quark vector meson into pseudoscalar meson V →Pγ. Expression of the decay rate Γ isderived in this first-principle theory without assumptionand free parameter. The ratio Γ(D*0→ D0γ)/Γ(D*+→ D+γ) is correctly predicted. Theorders of magnitude of the radiative decay rates of B*,D*, K*, and ρ estimated from this expression areconsistent with data. Very fast mesons have a smallersize then do mesons at rest, similar to Lorentzcontraction in laboratory space.
