Description / Table of Contents:
The title compounds 1a-e were treated with alcohols, amines, and ammonia. Alcohols react without catalyst or with, e.g., dibutyltin(IV) dilaurate only at the two isocyanate groups to give urethanes (5a-e) heaving an intact diketene group, in the presence of, e.g., tert. amines or tributylphosphane the latter too react to yield a ß-ketoester (6b′). Amines also react preferentially with the isocyanate groups to form 3, 4 but no react selectivity could be observed. The 2:1 reaction products of alcohols and diisocyanatodiketenes 5a-e are susceptable to reactions known from the chemistry of diketenes. The new diisocyanatodiketenes 1a-e therefore represent a new class of trifunctional building blocks for step growth polymers.
Notes:
