    Notes: Abstract This paper examines the contributions given in theSource Book in Astronomy and Astrophysics 1900–1975 with respect to the question: how old were the authors at the time of their greatest achievements? As average value of the age of the authors at the time of the publication we find A=39.8±10.9 years and a little difference for more empirical and the theoretical papers.

    Notes: Abstract This paper is based on theSource Book in Astronomy and Astrophysics 1900–1975 which is considered representative of the pioneer research work in the field. The distribution of important scientific achievements over a certain period, their distribution by subject area and sources, single or multiple authorship and age of techniques relevant to these areas are quantitatively examined. In some cases results are obtained as known from the analysis of the overall output of the sciences (including astronomy). As regards, however, the frequency of published important papers and the role of the latest technique pioneer achievements differ significantly from the total of scientific publications.

    Description / Table of Contents: The amino acids mentioned in the title react with aqueous solutions of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) salts resp. forming coordination compounds having the composition metal:ligand = 2: 1 and 1: 1. The thermal, magnetical and spectroscopical properties are studied. Ring strains in these compounds determine the structures.
    Notes: Über die Darstellung fester Komplexverbindungen der im Titel genannten Aminocarbonsäuren mit den Metallen Kupfer, Nickel, Kobalt, Zink und Cadmium wird berichtet. Es lassen sich Verbindungen mit den Verhältnissen Metall zu Ligand wie 2: 1 bzw. 1: 1 darstellen. Ihre thermischen, magnetischen und spektroskopischen Eigenschaften werden untersucht und daraus Strukturvorstellungen entwickelt. Bestimmend für die Strukturen sind beträchtliche Spannungen in den Chelatringen.

    Description / Table of Contents: P- and m-Phenylenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetraetic acid have been prepared. The acidity constants have been measured in aqueous solution at 25.0°C and constant ionic strength μ = 0.1 (KCl). With cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and Mn(II) ions this ligand may form complexes of the compositions MH2L, MHL-, ML2- and M2L. The stability constants of these chelates have been estimated. Some of these constants are to be corrected because of statistic and electronic reasons. Structural aspects of these compounds are discussed.
    Notes: Über die Darstellung und einige Eigenschaften der p- und m-Phenylendiamin-N,N,N′,N′-tetraessigsäure wird berichtet. Aus potentiometrischen pH-Messungen wurden die Säuredissoziationskonstanten ermittelt. Mit Kupfer(II)-, Nickel(II)-, Kobalt(II)-, Zink(II)- bzw. Mangan(II)-Ionen werden in wäßriger Lösung Komplexteilchen der Zusammensetzung MH2L, MHL-, ML2- und M2L gebildet. Deren Stabilitätskonstanten wurden bestimmt. Säureexponenten und Komplexbildungskonstanten bilden die Grundlage einer Diskussion der Struktur sowohl der freien Säuren als auch ihrer Komplexe.

    Description / Table of Contents: New organic Arsenic - Selenium CompoundsThe compounds 1,4-Diphenyl-1,4-diarsa-2,3,5-triselenacyclopentane and 1,3,5-trimethyle-1,3,5-triarsa-2,4,6-triselenacyclohexane have been prepared by the reaction of the corresponding organocycloarsine and elemental selenium. The structures of the compounds have been concluded from UV, IR, 1H-NMR, and mass-spectroscopic measurements.
    Notes: Die Darstellungen der Verbindungen 1,4-Diphenyl-1,4-diarsa-2,3,5-triselenacyclopentan, (C6H5)2As2Se3, und elementarem Selen werden mitgeteilt. Die Strukturen dieser Verbindungen werden aus den Ergebnissen elektronen-, schwingungs- und protonenresonanz- sowie massenspektroskopektroskoischer Untersuchungen abgeleitet.

    Description / Table of Contents: Chalcogenide Glasses with Organic Components. I. Glasses of the Selenium-Arsenic-Bromine-Azobenzene SystemNew glasses were prepared by melting suitable glasses of the system Se—As—Br and of Bis(selenenylbromido)-azobenzene, and cooling them subsequently. Azobenzene groups are connected with the inorganic glass by selenium-carbon bonds. These substances represent the link between polymers as part of the organic chemistry and inorganic glasses. The structures of these products are discussed on the basis of thermal, conductivity, and infrared spectroscopic studies and of density measurements.
    Notes: Aus geeignet zusammengesetzten Gläsern des Systems Se—As—Br und Bis(selenenylbromido)azobenzol lassen sich durch Reaktion in der Schmelze und Abkühlen neuartige Gläser darstellen, die über Selen-Kohlenstoff-Bindungen eingebaute Azobenzolgruppen enthalten. Diese Stoffe vermitteln den Übergang zwischen Polymeren der organischen Chemie und Gläsern der anorganischen Chemie. Auf der Grundlage thermischer, elektrischer und infrarotspektroskopischer Untersuchungen und von Dichtemessungen wird die Struktur dieser Gläser diskutiert.

Glasses of the Selenium-Arsenic-Iodine-Biphenylene SystemNew solids were prepared by melting suitable glasses of the system Se—As—I and of 4,4′-Bis(diiodoarsa)biphenyle, and cooling them subsequently. The transformation temperatures, densities, dc-conductivities, and i.r. spectra of the solids are reported. These solids exhibit chain-like structures. The biphenylene groups are connected with the inorganic matrix by arsenic-carbon bonds. The structure especially of the biphenylene units as wall as the conductivity behaviour is discussed.
    Notes: Aus 4,4′-Bis(dijodarsa)biphenyl und Gläsern der Zusammensetzung Se—As—J lassen sich durch Reaktion in der Schmelze und Abkühlen neuartige Festkörper darstellen. Die Transformationstemperaturen, Dichten, Gleichstromleitfähigkeiten und IR-Spektren der Stoffe werden mitgeteilt. Sie sind vorwiegend kettenförmig aufgebaut, die Biphenylengruppen sind über Arsen-Kohlenstoff-Bindungen in die Makromolekeln eingebunden. Steigender Jodgehalt führt zur Verkürzung der Ketten und zum Absinken der Glasübergangstemperaturen, z. T. unterhalb Raumtemperatur. Die Struktur besonders der Biphenyleneinheiten sowie das Leitfähigkeitsverhalten werden diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: The reactions of Cr(CO)5I and Cr2(CO)10I with several N- and P -ligands were investigated. Whereas Cr(CO)5I reacts in liquid NH3 and ethylenediamine to the new CrI complexes [Cr(CO)2(NH3)4]I and [Cr(en)3]I, respectively, the interaction between Cr2(CO)10I and liquid NH3 yields tetramminedicarbonyl-chromium(+I)iododiammine-tricarbonyl-chromate(O), [Cr(CO)2(NH3)4][Cr(CO)3(NH3)2I]. With other mono- and bidentate N- and P-ligands, both penta- and tetracarbonyl derivatives of Cr(CO)6 are formed under elimination of elemental iodine.The structures of the new compounds formed in the ammono system are discussed on the basis of their IR spectra.
    Notes: Die Reaktionen von Cr(CO)5J und Cr2(CO)10J mit verschiedenen N- und P-Liganden werden untersucht. Während im Falle des Cr(CO)5J mit flüssigem NH3 bzw. Äthylendiamin die neuen Chrom(+I)-Komplexe [Cr(CO)2(NH3)4]J bzw. [Cr(en)3]J gebildet werden, erhält man bei der Umsetzung von Cr2(CO)10J mit flüssigem NH3 Tetrammin-dicarbonyl-chrom-(+I)-jodo-diammin-tricarbonyl-chromat(O), [Cr(Co)2(NH3)4][Cr(Co)3(NH3)2J], mit kationischem und anionischem CO. Mit anderen ein- und zweizähnigen N- und P-Liganden entstehen in beiden Fällen Penta- und Tetracarbonylderivate des Cr(CO)6 unter gleichzeitiger Entbindung von elementarem Jod.Die Strukturen der neuen, im Ammonosystem gebildeten Verbindungen werden an Hand ihrer IR-Spektren diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Investigations of the Structure and the Melting Behaviour of (C6H5)2As2Se3 and (CH3)3As3Se3The compounds (C6H5)2As2Se3 and (CH3)3As3Se3 exist in a crystalline and a glass-like form. Both phases were investigated by the methods of mass, i.r., and u.v. spectroscopy and by DTA. The mass-spectroscopic fragmentation patterns are shown. The proposed structures of the crystalline forms are confirmed by these results. In the melts equilibria exist between the cyclic molecules of the crystalline forms and chains and other rings. On attempts to prepare the compound (C6H5)3As3Se3, only (C6H5)2As2Se3 was found. The possible reasons of the preferred stability of the five ring molecule are discussed.
    Notes: Die Verbindungen (C6H5)2As2Se3 und (CH3)3As3Se3 können sowohl kristallin als auch glasartig erhalten werden. Beide Zustandsformen werden massen-, IR- und elektronen-spektroskopisch und differentialthermoanalytisch untersucht. Über das massenspektroskopische Fragmentierungsverhalten wird berichtet. Die Ergebnisse bestätigen den Strukturvorschlag für die kristallinen Formen beider Verbindungen. Beim Schmelzen findet zumindest teilweise eine Ringöffnung und -umlagerung statt, wobei auch höher aggregierte Spezies entstehen. Bei Versuchen, eine Verbindung der Zusammensetzung (C6H5)3As3Se3 darzustellen, entstand stets (C6H5)2As2Se3. Die möglichen Ursachen der bevorzugten Stabilität des Fünfringes werden diskutiert.
