Notes:
Abstract The activity of phenylalanine deaminase, the initial enzyme in the phenylalanine-topisatin pathway was increased by approximately 10 times when spore suspensions ofMonilinia fructicola were applied in excised pea (Pisum sativum) pods. Actidione was effective in inhibiting this increase in enzyme activity. Actidione also inhibited the increase in conversion of L-phenylalanine-u.l.-14C to pisatin and the increase in protein synthesis inM. fructicola treated pea tissue. Actinomycin D did not inhibit protein synthesis in excised pods and functioned as a stimulator rather than an inhibitor of the induction process.
