Crystal Structure and Color of Perylene-3,4:9,10-bis(dicarboximide) Pigments, 2Extreme differences in shade in the case of perylene-3,4:9,10-bis(dicarboximide) pigments can be explained by interpreting the results of crystal structure investigations in geometric terms. The parallel arrangement of neighboring molecules in stacks, which is encountered in most N,N′-dialkylperylene-3,4:9,10-bis(dicarboximides), is not found in the bis-ethylimide; here the molecules in the stacks are twisted with respect to each other.

Extreme Farbtonunterschiede bei Perylen-3,4:9,10-bis(dicarboximid)-Pigmenten lassen sich durch eine geometrische Betrachtungsweise der Ergebnisse von Kristallstrukturuntersuchungen deuten. Die bei den meisten N,N′-Dialkylperylen-3,4:9,10-bis(dicarboximiden) angetroffene parallele Anordnung benachbarter Moleküle in Stapeln wird bein Bis-ethylimid durchbrochen: Die Moleküle sind in den Stapeln gegenseitig verdreht.
