Abstract Data have recently been published on migration flows among New Zealand's urban areas [9]. Using regression analysis on these data, this study examines the determinants of inter-city movement in New Zealand. One important feature emerging from the analysis is the revealed existence of extensive migrationamong the relatively large urban areas, as well as to the largest urban conurbation which forms the only real growth centre in the country.
