    Notes: Interfacial stress distribution of bonded quarter-planes subjected to a concentrated forcewas re-investigated based on Bogy’s solution[1]. The characteristic length of the singular interface end,δ, was defined, and found varying in a very large size scale with the index of stress singularity frommillimeter to nanometer or even smaller scale. The influences the characteristic length scale on theinitial debonding of the interface end is a new question worth to pay attention. Photoelasticityexperiment was employed to verify whether the initial debonding is always located at interface endwith stress singularity. The test results show that the initial debonding does not start from singularinterface end if the index of stress singularity is small enough

    Notes: The dibenzothiophene (DBT) desulfurization pathway of a facultative thermophilic bacterium Mycobacterium sp. X7B was investigated. Metabolites were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and the results showed that 2-hydroxybiphenyl, the end product of the previously reported sulfur-specific pathway (also called 4S pathway), was further converted to 2-methoxybiphenyl. This is the first strain to possess this ability and therefore, an extended 4S pathway was determined. In addition, the DBT-desulfurizing bacterium Mycobacterium sp. X7B was able to grow on DBT derivatives such as 4-methylDBT and 4,6-dimethylDBT. Resting cells could desulfurize diesel oil (total sulfur, 535 ppm) after hydrodesulfurization. GC flame ionization detection and GC atomic emission detection analyses were used to qualitatively evaluate the effect of Mycobacterium sp. X7B treatment on the content of the diesel oil. The total sulfur content of the diesel oil was reduced 86% using resting cell biocatalysts for 24 h at 45°C.

    Notes: The phase error between the real phase shift and the Gazdag background phase shift, due to lateral velocity variations about a reference velocity, can be decomposed into axial and paraxial phase errors. The axial phase error depends only on velocity perturbations and hence can be completely removed by the split-step Fourier method. The paraxial phase error is a cross function of velocity perturbations and propagation angles. The cross function can be approximated with various differential operators by allowing the coefficients to vary with velocity perturbations and propagation angles. These variable-coefficient operators require finite-difference numerical implementation. Broadband constant-coefficient operators may provide an efficient alternative that approximates the cross function within the split-step framework and allows implementation using Fourier transforms alone. The resulting migration accuracy depends on the localization of the constant-coefficient operators. A simple broadband constant-coefficient operator has been designed and is tested with the SEG/EAEG salt model. Compared with the split-step Fourier method that applies to either weak-contrast media or at small propagation angles, this operator improves wavefield extrapolation for large to strong lateral heterogeneities, except within the weak-contrast region. Incorporating the split-step Fourier operator into a hybrid implementation can eliminate the poor performance of the broadband constant-coefficient operator in the weak-contrast region. This study may indicate a direction of improving the split-step Fourier method, with little loss of efficiency, while allowing it to remain faster than more precise methods such as the Fourier finite-difference method.

    Notes: Abstract A novel approach to rule refinement based upon connectionism is presented. This approach is capable of performing rule deletion, rule addition, changing rule quality, and modification of rule strengths. The fundamental algorithm is referred to as the Consistent-Shift algorithm. Its basis for identifying incorrect connections is that incorrect connections will often undergo larger inconsistent weight shift that correct ones during training with correct samples. By properly adjusting the detection threshold, incorrect connections would be uncovered, which can then be deleted or modified. Deletion of incorrect connections and addition of correct connections then translate into various forms of rule refinement just mentioned. The viability of this approach is demonstrated empirically.

    Notes: Electric contact is an important component of high voltage circuit breaker switch lubicle,isolating switch and ground switch. It is composed of arc-extinction end and conduction end. Theusual material of arc-extinction end is copper-tungsten and the usual material of conduction end iscopper or chrome-copper. Currently, four process for making the integral electric contact such ascommon brazing, vacuum brazing, electric-beam welding; liquid-phase sintering is of the bestintegral technique capability. This article puts forward a process by friction welding for integralCu-W electric contact, and studies about the weldability between copper-tungsten and copper orchrome-copper, and between copper and chrome-copper. In order to solve the worse weldabilitybetween copper-tungsten and copper or chrome-copper, the design conception of intermediate layeris tentatively suggested. From experimental results, using the production method of friction weldingis practicable to integral electric contact. It has some advantages, such as high availability ofmaterial, high productivity, high ratio of finish products, and it has no any influence onenvironment

    Notes: Abstract In this paper we study the field fluctuation in theM-photon Jaynes-Cummings model. We present the general expression for the field fluctuation and put emphasis on the long time behavior. We find that the field squeezing seems to appear periodically for even-photon processes, but only exists in the initial short time for odd-photon processes. We also find that the field fluctuation shows collapse-revival-like phenomena in the long-time and nosqueezing region for odd-photon processes.

    Notes: Summary The effect of Aclacinomycin B (ACM-B), an anthracycline antitumor antibiotic, on the DNA-dependent RNA synthesis using single- and double-stranded DNAs of known base content and sequence is studied. The data show that ACM-B effectively inhibits the double-stranded DNA-directed RNA synthesis with a preference of poly[d(A-T)] 〉 poly[d(G-C)] 〉 poly[d(I-C)]. In contrast, it has no inhibitory effect on the template function of single-stranded DNA (e.g. poly dA, poly dT, and poly dC). These results suggest that the mechanism of ACM-13 inhibition, like other anthracycline antibiotics, is by intercalation. In addition to the base specificity, there are also dramatic differences in inhibition depending on the base sequence in the DNA template. Thus, ACM-13 preferentially inhibits the alternating double-stranded copolymers over the double-stranded homopolymers; e.g. poly [d(A-T)] is inhibited to a greater extent than poly dA · poly dT and poly [d(G-C)] is inhibited more than poly dG · poly dC. Since the inhibition by ACM-13 can be totally abolished when assayed in excess amount of DNA, this result suggests that ACM-B inhibition of RNA synthesis is solely on the DNA template (which is in support of the intercalation model), and has ruled out the possibility that ACM-B may also exert an inhibitory effect on the activity of RNA polymerase per se.
