With fractions of low density polyethylene (M̄w = 14. 103 to 630. 103) the supermolecular structure was determined by means of electron microscopy and correlated with changes of the mechanical properties. The mechanical behaviour and the basic deformation processes of tilting, slipping and breaking of the lamellae were found to depend distinctly on both the molecular mass and on the supermolecular structure (spherulites, sheaf-like structures, lamellae, amorphous layers)

Am Beispiel von Fraktionen aus Polyethylen niederer Dichte (M̄w = 14.103 bis 630. 103) wird elektronemikroskopisch die übermolekulare Struktur charakterisiert und mit Veränderungen der mechanischen Eigenschaften diskutiert. Neben dem direkten Einfluß der Molekülmasse wurde ein deutlicher Einfluß der übermolekularen Struturen (Garben, Sphärolithe, Lamellen, zwischenlamellare Bereiche) auf die bei der Deformation ablaufenden Kipp-, Gleit- und Aufbrechvorgänge der Lamellen und damit auf die mechanischen Eigenschaften ermittelt.
