Abstract: Nanoscience and nanotechnologies are a major factor leading in our understanding of nature. Nanotechnology can be generally defined as creation and use of nano-sized systems, devices, and structures which have special functions or properties because of their small size. This volume on Nanotechnology Applications in Health and Environmental Sciences focuses on biotechnological and environmental applications of nanomaterials. It covers popular and various nanomedical topics such as oncology, genetics, and reconstructive medicine. Additionally, many chapters give leading-edge information on nano-sensor applications and usage in specific disciplines. Also, two chapters on novel subjects have been included on antibiotics and microbiota. This book should be useful for nanotechnologists, microbiologists, and researchers interested in nanomedicine and nano-biotechnology, as well as environmental nanotechnology. .

Notes: Summary The molecular genetics of Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophy was investigated in 81 affected Turkish families. Deletions were detected by multiplex polymerase chain reaction assays and cDNA Southern analyses. The distribution of the deletions along the gene and their correlation to clinical phenotype were different from the studies reported on other populations. Moreover, DNA polymorphisms in mothers were determined using 8 DNA probes and three CA repeat sequences, and a high degree of informativeness was observed.

Notes: In this paper the operator extensions for infinite algebras of residual gauge transformations and space-time transformations in physical space-time are discussed on general grounds. Possible general forms of the extensions are presented and their realizations in quantum field theories are discussed. The meaning of nontriviality for the extensions will also be discussed. In particular, cohomology methods are used to calculate the extension of spatial diffeomorphism algebra when chiral fermions are coupled to both an external U(1) gauge field and gravity.

Notes: Holomorphic Fueter functions of the position quaternion form a subgroup of Euclidean space-time diffeomorphisms. An O(4) covariant treatment of such mappings is presented with the quaternionic argument x being replaced by either p¯x or xp¯ involving self-dual and anti-self-dual structures and p denoting an arbitrary Euclidean time direction. An infinite group (the quasiconformal group) is exhibited that admits the conformal group SO(5,1) as a subgroup, in analogy to the two-dimensional case in which the Möbius group SO(3,1) is a subgroup of the infinite Virasoro group. The ensuing (3+1) covariant decomposition of diffeomorphisms suggests covariant gauges that throw the metric and the stress tensors in standard forms suitable for canonical quantization, leading to "improved'' energy-momentum tensors. Other possible applications to current algebra and gravity will be mentioned.

Notes: The generators of the subgroups SO(7)L,R and the cosets S7L,R=SO(8)/SO(7)L,R and Σ7L,R=SO(7)L,R/G2 of SO(8) are constructed out of the generators of SO(8) using octonionic structure tensors, and the representations of these generators are given as products of octonions.

Notes: Abstract A high resolution Raman spectrum of polycrystalline VOCl3 at −196 °C has been recorded. Besides the chlorine isotope splitting a further splitting of 3 of the 6 fundamentals has been observed. The number of the Raman lines in the ν4 and ν6 region and the intensity ratios in the ν2 region will be explained by a factor group splitting of 2 VOCl3 molecules in the unit cell.

Notes: Abstract TheRaman spectra of solid and molten SeOBr2 as well as of a CCl4 solution have been recorded for the first time. The spectra indicate associated molecules in the molten state and relatively strong intermolecular interactions in the solid. Monomeric pyramidal molecules are present in the CCl4 solution. An assignment will be discussed in analogy to SeOCl2.

Notes: Abstract The temperature dependent behaviour of PCl4AsCl6, PCl4SbCl6 and AsCl4SbCl6 has been investigated byRaman spectroscopy. The As(V) containing complexes decompose into homogeneous molecular melts consisting of AsCl3, Cl2 and PCl5, respectively. In PCl4SbCl6 PCl4 + and SbCl6 − complex ions were found in the solid as well as in the molten state.
