The design and operation of a 150mm multistage co-rotating disk polymer compounder (DISKPACKTrademark of Farrel Company) are presented and discussed. The processor consists of five parallel fed melting chambers followed in series by four mixing, one venting, and one pumping chamber. The experimental operational characteristics, specifically melting, mixing, degassing, and pumping of the processor for a variety of polymer compounds are presented and discussed. Examples of extensive and intensive mixing are presented.
