Notes: Abstract  The intrachromosomal distribution patterns of chromatid aberrations induced by the restriction endonucleases HpaII, MspI and HaeIII in a multireconstructed barley karyotype were analysed. All of these endonucleases, which differ with respect to their DNA recognition sequences but produce only one type of DNA damage, showed nearly the same pattern of localized chromosome breakage. The most pronounced aberration hot spots proved to be the loci of transcriptionally active and condensed, inactive, rDNA. Possible mechanisms involved in the specific distribution of induced aberrations along the distinct chromosomal regions are discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Eine spektrophotometrische Methode zur Bestimmung von Mikromengen Gold über das Nitrontrijodid wurde ausgearbeitet.
Abstract: Summary Studies have been made to determine the conditions permitting the spectrophotometric determination of microamounts of gold in the form of nitron triiodide. The conditions have been established under which the platinum metals do not interfere with the determination. Thallium(III) has an effect on the results.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bin Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Mikromengen Kupfer(II) durch Fällung als Kupfertetrammin-Pikrat wird vorgeschlagen.
Abstract: Summary A method is suggested for the determination of micro amounts of copper(II) by precipitation as the picrate of cupritetrammine. This method is based on the precipitation of the copper(II) in the presence of an excess of sodium pierate in an ammoniacal milieu and on the colorimetric determination of the residual picric acid, after extraction in the form of the picrate of methylene blue. This procedure permits the determination of from 1 to 10μg of Cu(II) with a maximum error of ± 5%. The determination is not impaired by the presence of the cations: zinc up to 200 μg), silver (up to 500μg), cobalt (up to 50μg), cadmium (up to 100μg), nickel (up to 20μg), and chromium (up to 50μg). This method may be employed for determining copper in vegetable ashes.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Extraktion von Gold(III) mit Hilfe von Quecksilber wurde untersucht.
Abstract: Summary The authors give the results of their researches on the extraction of gold(III) with the aid of mercury, in relation to the acidity of the solution, the quantity of mercury, and the period of agitation. The possibility is pointed out of separating the gold(III) quantitatively starting with acid solutions and using mercury in the presence of chlorine water and mercury(II) chloride. The gold content of lead concentrates has been determined. The results obtained have been subjected to statistical analysis and the precision of the method has been verified.

Description: The impact of climate change on migration has gained both academic and public interest in recent years. Here we employ a meta-analysis approach to synthesize the evidence from 30 country-level studies that estimate the effect of slow- and rapid-onset events on migration worldwide. Most studies find that environmental hazards affect migration, although with contextual variation. Migration is primarily internal or to low- and middle-income countries. The strongest relationship is found in studies with a large share of countries outside the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, particularly from Latin America and the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa, and in studies of middle-income and agriculturally dependent countries. Income and conflict moderate and partly explain the relationship between environmental change and migration. Combining our estimates for differential migration responses with the observed environmental change in these countries in recent decades illustrates how the meta-analytic results can provide useful insights for the identification of potential hotspots of environmental migration.

Description: Goals and pathways to achieve sustainable urban development have multiple interlinkages with human health and wellbeing. However, these interlinkages have not been examined in depth in recent discussions on urban sustainability and global urban science. This paper fills that gap by elaborating in detail the multiple links between urban sustainability and human health and by mapping research gaps at the interface of health and urban sustainability sciences. As researchers from a broad range of disciplines, we aimed to: 1) define the process of urbanization, highlighting distinctions from related concepts to support improved conceptual rigour in health research; 2) review the evidence linking health with urbanization, urbanicity, and cities and identify cross-cutting issues; and 3) highlight new research approaches needed to study complex urban systems and their links with health. This novel, comprehensive knowledge synthesis addresses issue of interest across multiple disciplines. Our review of concepts of urban development should be of particular value to researchers and practitioners in the health sciences, while our review of the links between urban environments and health should be of particular interest to those outside of public health. We identify specific actions to promote health through sustainable urban development that leaves no one behind, including: integrated planning; evidence-informed policy-making; and monitoring the implementation of policies. We also highlight the critical role of effective governance and equity-driven planning in progress towards sustainable, healthy, and just urban development.
