Notes:
From several types of polyamides (3, 4, 5, and 6) containing blocs of 2, 4, 6, and 14, 7 thio-1,4-phenylene units blends with polyundecanamide (2) were prepared. Their miscibility, thermal properties, mechanical properties, and methane permeability were studied and related to the chemical structure of the additives. The thermal stability of the polyamide was found to be improved for all kinds of blends. The miscibility of the thio-1,4-phenylene blocs incorporated into the copolymers is higher than the theoretical prediction for the unmodified blocs. Increasing of Young's modulus and decreasing of methane permeability were observed when the thio-1,4-phenylene blocs are partially miscible.
