Abstract In this work, a simplified experimental calibration procedure of a tridilosa-type highway bridge finite element model is presented. Under static loading conditions, vertical deflections and longitudinal stress values of bridge midspan bar elements were used as reference parameters. Natural frequencies obtained through a finite element model are then compared with those obtained through experimental measurements. Good experimental-model correlation for the first two frequencies and corresponding mode shapes was obtained. Based on the results, improvements for future experimental instrumentation configurations and measurement for these types of bridges are presented and discussed.
