Transition Metal Complexes, II1). - Reactions of Zerovalent Nickel with RadicalsCertain C-, O-, and N-radicals such as trityl (1a), 1,1,3,3-tetraphenylallyl (4a), 1,2,3,4,5-pentaphenyl-2,4-cyclopentadienyl (5a), 2,4,6-tri-tert.butylphenoxyl (6a), 4-cyano-2,6-di-tert.butylphenoxyl (7a) and di(p-anisyl)nitrogen oxide (8a) may be trapped with nickel(0), which is either generated in situ or used in the form its olefin complexes, to give nickel(II) compounds. Both nickel(I) and nickel(II) derivatives are formed in reactions with 6a. In a number of cases the radicals may be liberated by reacting the nickel compounds with stronger ligands. Some of the new products are catalytically active. The use of 1,1,3,3-tetraphenylallylnickel(II) bromide as a catalytic component has thrown light on a new mechanism for the cleavage of the allyl system from the nickel atom.
Notes:
