Abstract Two high grade metamorphic cycles in the geological history of Hesadi antiform, punctuated by three cycles of deformations, are studied to assess the significance of development of index minerals, zonal patterns and changing P-T gradients in an orogenic milieu. It is observed that while intersecting isograds belong to different metamorphic cycles (separated in time) with their own characteristic P-T gradients, there are, besides, changes in P-T gradients (within the same cycle) along the axis of the orogen. Role of deformation, pressure and changing heat flux explain the observed features.
