Abstract: This textbook provides a basic introduction to radiology and imaging along with the minimum required knowledge written from a practical clinical perspective. Presenting essential definitions and critical images, this textbook offers key references in a welcomed concise format, targeting medical students and interns undertaking the USMLE and house staff of any specialty desiring a resource for practical and useful information relevant to and including medical imaging of common diseases and conditions. Organized by signs, symptoms, history, disease, imaging and imaging findings, and clinical service/specialty, this textbook thoughtfully addresses the early challenges faced by medical students and interns preparing for their beginning rotation or internship. Allowing readers to bypass dense radiology books too cluttered with detail, organized by body part instead of clinical relevance, or not inclusive of the latest developments and technologies, this textbook prepares students and house staff to enter and to succeed in this most rapidly evolving field in medicine. The Radiology Survival Kit: What You Need to Know for USMLE and the Clinics is a practical, clinically-oriented textbook offering an early career perspective intended for first through fourth year medical students and house staff, including interns and residents from any discipline, as well as radiology and radiography students and technologists, radiology and ICU nurses, nursing students, radiology administrators, and foreign medical graduates.

Abstract: This proceedings volume results from the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on 'Biomarkers of Radiation in the Environment: Robust Tools for Risk Assessment (BRITE)’. The BRITE workshop discussed insights from cancer research, epigenetics, non-human and human risk assessment, since many of the state-of-the-art biomarkers being developed for humans deserve consideration for environmental applications and vice versa. Sessions were very wide-ranging covering methods, mechanisms, cross disciplinary application and regulation. The chapters in this book have been grouped into five major themes that were covered by the BRITE workshop: · Techniques for biomarker development · Low-dose effect mechanisms · Biomarkers for risk evaluation · Biomarkers in wildlife · Biomarker use and responses Each chapter has been written independently and reflects the views of the chapter author(s). Therefore, the readers can form their own balanced view of the different perspectives on biomarkers of radiation in the environment. Given the breadth of topics covered and the state-of-the-art perspectives shared by leading experts in their respective fields, this book should form a valuable resource for anyone with an interest in how biomarkers can be used to improve our understanding of radiation in the environment and its potential impacts.

Abstract: This book discusses how cities’ identities are formed and developed over time and portrays architecture and the arts as the embodiment of the historical, cultural, and economic characteristics of cities. Furthermore, it explores strategies and solutions to preserve the cultural heritage along the Silk Road, representing a compilation of research addressing the economic and social opportunities and challenges related to the development of a more sustainable and responsible approach to tourism development and the preservation of heritage. As such, it covers a wide range of audiences including economists, architects, planners, tourism experts, and decision-makers interested in making use of cities' available resources and features, offering strategies to explore development opportunities through sustainable and responsible tourism along the Silk Road. This book is a culmination of selected research papers from the first version of the International Conference on "Silk Road Sustainable Tourism Development and Cultural Heritage (SRSTDCH)" which was held in 2021 in collaboration with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the European Interdisciplinary Silk Road Tourism Centre, Greece and the 5th Edition of the International Conference on “Cities’ Identity rough Architecture and Arts (CITAA)” which was held in 2021 in collaboration with University of Pisa, Italy.

Keywords: Natural disasters. ; Geotechnical engineering. ; Environmental monitoring. ; Natural Hazards. ; Geotechnical Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences. ; Environmental Monitoring.
Description / Table of Contents: Chapter 1. Introduction to Hydrogeological Hazards -- Chapter 2. Loess Landslides and Water Resources Management -- Chapter 3. Land Subsidence and Groundwater Seepage -- Chapter 4. Earth Fissures and Natural Resources Mining -- Chapter 5. Karst Collapse and Its Management -- Chapter 6. Mine Water Inrush and Its Prediction -- Chapter 7. Groundwater Contamination and Induced Risk and Hazard in a Karst Aquifer.
Abstract: This book addresses geohazards by establishing their unique hydrogeological conceptual site models. Geohazards occur in many forms and scales either naturally or induced by human's activities. Many geohazards such as earth fissure, ground collapse and subsidence, mine water inrush, and groundwater contamination are closely related to hydrogeological conditions and their dynamics. Water, either surface water or groundwater, acts as a resource and an enabling agent that elevates geohazard risks in areas that are inherently vulnerable. The book presents case studies to describe identification and investigation methods, monitoring and early-warning techniques, modeling approaches, and engineering measures to prevent, control, and mitigate these geohazards. It targets students, researchers, practitioners, and decision makers who are engaged in water resource management, project planning, and geohazard control and management.
