The axis of rotation of the beam can also be displaced in the vertical and horizontal directions. The equations of equilibrium of this system (25)–(27) were used to derive the expressions for the effect of displacing the calibration ball, for the scale equation and for the sensitivity of the gravity meter. Equations (33), (34) and (39) refer to gravity meters with a photoelectric transducer, and Eqs (46), (47) and (49) to gravity meters with a capacitive transducer.

    Notes: Summary The scale-value switch (Fig. 1) makes it possible to calibrate even the older Askania tidal equipment with a galvanometer at a reduced scale-value. If resistors R 2 and R 3 are selected as shown in Eqs(4) and(5), the ratio of reduction of the scale value1/n does not depend on the internal resistance of the photo-cell in the gravimeter. The resistance of the recording galvanometer R 4 must be determined with an accuracy of±1% in order to obtained an accuracy of±0.5%. Together with the reduction in scale value also the damping is considerably decreased, which enables the time, required for calibration, to be cut down considerably.

(2). It is suggested that several tidal waves be used to determine k and τ and to take the weighted mean as the resultant value. Suitable weights have also been derived, Eq. (7).

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary It is recommended that the data from measurements with supraconducting gravity meters be also analysed with regard to verifying the gravitation absorption hypothesis. Based on theoretical data from a3-year period, the spectrum of the assumed effect of shielding the gravitational influence of the Sun by the Earth's body on the value of the acceleration of gravity has been calculated for the tidal station Brussels (Figs 2a–e).
