Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Photoreduction by CO of silica supported vanadia catalysts of different cluster size has been studied. It was found that the rates of photoreduction and the highest attainable degrees of reduction depend on the size of vanadia clusters. The chemisorptive properties of photoreduced catalysts toward but-1-ene and O2 are studied and discussed in terms of the distribution of V3+ ions in partially reduced clusters.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract During temperature programmed heating of Cr6+-oxide supported on dispersed silica up to three peaks of oxygen release with maxima at 670, 750 and 920 K are observed in dependence on chromium content and surface area of the silica. The peaks are related to three different kinds of unstable Cr6+-oxide existing besides stable Cr6+-surface compounds.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract An all-glass vibration mixed laboratory reactor is described which operates as a continuous stirred tank reactor. The mixing and mass transfer characteristics are studied, the latter for the conversion of propan-2-ol in air on the CrO3/SiO2 catalyst system. The results complete data of Ref. [6].

Notes: Abstract The conversion of methanol into light olefins has been studied using the silver salt of dodecatungstosilicic acid supported on serosil. Special attention has been paid to the process of the acid sites formation during the initial reaction period and to the role of hydrogen. The significantly higher activity and stability of the supported silver salt compared with the supported free heteropoly acid is explained by a controlled formation process of acidic sites and their additional generation from hydrogen on the metallic silver surface.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Catalytic properties of four heteropoly acids of the molybdophosphoric type were studied in the selective oxidation of isobutene to methacrolein. Results show that the highest selectivities for methacrolein were achieved with samples in which the original structure of the heteropoly anion is least affected by thermal destruction.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Catalytic activity of CrO3/SiO2 samples for 2-propanol conversion is governed by only a small amount of active centers (estimated to be around 1017 per gram of catalyst), whereas excess chromium neither develops catalytic activity nor inhibits the reaction on the active sites. Only when the chromium loading is high enough to allow formation of bulk-like agglomerates (5 wt.% Cr) is 2-propanol converted also on this CrOx surface phase, but with a significant higher activation energy.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The preparation and hydrolysis of silica supported vanadium catalysts have been investigated using VCl4 as a paramagnetic probe. Chemical analysis shows the possibility of the VCl4 molecule to react one, two, or three hydroxy groups of the surface. The type of reaction is influenced by the temperature of pretreatment of aerosil (TPA). ESR measurements show distortions of the tetrahedral coordination of the (SiO)nVCl4−n surface complex, which is strongest for the threefold attachment (n=3) of VCl4 to the surface. Hydrolysis is accompanied by an increase of the coordination number and leads to highly mobile vanadium species.
