    Abstract: This book introduces the Chinese boletes, including the history, ecological and economic values, as well as the geographical distribution patterns with a highlight on the Tylopilus species. Species in Tylopilus s.l. are not only of important ecological values but also of scientific interests. They are very diverse in morphology, complex in structure and wide in ecological niches. China is one of the diverse hotspots of boletes, and many boletes were traditionally treated as members of Tylopilus based on hymenophore or spore-print colour. The studies revealed that the traditionally defined Tylopilus is polyphyletic. This book aims to elucidate the phylogenetic relationships among the genera treated in Tylopilus s.l. previously; to delimit and recognize the taxa, and finally to reveal the diversity of the genera and species of Tylopilus s.l. in China. The book is intended to be a reference for biologists who conduct investigations of biological resources and biodiversity; university and college teachers and students carrying out studies in related fields; mycologists and amateur mycologists, or people who interested in mushrooms taxonomy and systematics; and workers in the development of non-timber forest products. .

    Description: 〈p〉More than a decade after the first theoretical and experimental studies of the spin Hall conductivity (SHC) of Pt, both its dominant origin and amplitude remain in dispute. We report the experimental determination of the rapid variation of the intrinsic SHC of Pt with the carrier lifetime () in the dirty-metal regime by incorporating finely dispersed MgO intersite impurities into the Pt, while maintaining its essential band structure. This conclusively validates the theoretical prediction that the SHC in Pt in the dirty-metal regime should be dominated by the intrinsic contribution, and should decrease rapidly with shortening . When interfacial spin backflow is taken into account, the intrinsic SHC of Pt in the clean limit is at least 1.6 x 10〈sup〉6〈/sup〉 (/2〈i〉e〈/i〉) ohm〈sup〉–1〈/sup〉 m〈sup〉–1〈/sup〉, more than 3.5 times greater than the available theoretical predictions. Our work also establishes a compelling spin Hall metal Pt〈sub〉0.6〈/sub〉(MgO)〈sub〉0.4〈/sub〉 with an internal giant spin Hall ratio of 0.73.〈/p〉

    Description: Wearable electronics fabricated on lightweight and flexible substrate are believed to have great potential for portable devices, but their applications are limited by the life span of their batteries. We propose a hybridized self-charging power textile system with the aim of simultaneously collecting outdoor sunshine and random body motion energies and then storing them in an energy storage unit. Both of the harvested energies can be easily converted into electricity by using fiber-shaped dye-sensitized solar cells (for solar energy) and fiber-shaped triboelectric nanogenerators (for random body motion energy) and then further stored as chemical energy in fiber-shaped supercapacitors. Because of the all–fiber-shaped structure of the entire system, our proposed hybridized self-charging textile system can be easily woven into electronic textiles to fabricate smart clothes to sustainably operate mobile or wearable electronics.

    Description: Dimension reduction in semiparametric regressions includes construction of informative linear combinations and selection of contributing predictors. To reduce the predictor dimension in semiparametric regressions, we propose an 1 -minimization of sliced inverse regression with the Dantzig selector, and establish a non-asymptotic error bound for the resulting estimator. We also generalize the regularization concept to sliced inverse regression with an adaptive Dantzig selector. This ensures that all contributing predictors are selected with high probability, and that the resulting estimator is asymptotically normal even when the predictor dimension diverges to infinity. Numerical studies confirm our theoretical observations and demonstrate that our proposals are superior to existing estimators in terms of both dimension reduction and predictor selection.

    Notes: The growth of unintentionally doped indium phosphide by low pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (LPMOCVD) using triethlylindium and phosphine has been investigated by low temperature photoluminescence (PL). Pregrowth annealing was found to result in improved crystalline quality of the seed surface. The predominant acceptor impurity on the annealed substrate surface and in the initial epitaxial region (1200 A(ring)) was shown to be carbon. The major acceptor impurity in thicker epilayers further away from the substrate interface was determined to be Zn. Silicon was also identified from the PL spectra, though its concentration might be much smaller than that of zinc. No deep level impurities were observed in this material. Most important of all, the highly resolved exciton PL spectrum demonstrated that excellent quality InP comparable to the best material grown by vapor phase epitaxy could be grown by LPMOCVD without the need for phosphine cracking.

    Notes: The kinetics of reactions of D2 with Ni9 through Ni14 are studied in a flow-tube reactor over the temperature range 133–413 K. Rate constants for the dissociative chemisorption of the first D2 molecule have been determined. Reaction probabilities are near unity for Ni10–Ni14 and are essentially independent of temperature. For Ni9, the reaction probability is about 5% between 213 and 413 K, but increases below 213 K to ∼50% at 133 K. The possibility that these reactions are mediated by a physisorbed precursor state is discussed. The increase in Ni9 reactivity below 213 K is interpreted as due to an increase in the initial trapping of the D2 molecule on the cluster's surface.

    Notes: The kinetics of the reactions of cobalt clusters (Con, n=9–21) with deuterium are studied over the temperature range 133–373 K. The measured rate constants for the dissociative addition of the first D2 molecule to Con, and their temperature dependences, are found to be strongly dependent on cluster size. Co10–13 and Co15–17 are relatively reactive, with their reaction rates essentially independent of temperature, suggesting no significant reaction barrier for deuterium chemisorption. The reaction rate of Co20 is nearly constant above 213 K, but increases at lower temperature. For Co9 and Co14, the rate constants increase both at high and low temperatures. An increase at higher temperatures suggests the presence of activation barriers, while increases at low temperatures are interpreted as due to an increase in the initial trapping of D2 onto the clusters' surfaces. For Co18, Co19, and Co21, evidence for more than one isomer at low temperature is found. The experimental results are discussed in terms of cluster geometrical structure and the detailed reaction mechanism.
