Description: The rock and soil on the shore of the bank are unsteady and slide in a poor environment, affecting the water body in the river channel and forming landslide-generated tsunamis. This directly impacts the navigation of vessels in the river. In this study, the river course and sailing ships in the Wanzhou section of the Three Gorges Reservoir area were taken as the research objects. Through a physical model test with a large scale ratio, the variation of the water level at the monitoring points in the channel was determined, and the variation law of the water level in the whole channel was derived and converted into a prototype through the scale ratio. A model of the ship’s manoeuvring motion was established, and the ship’s manoeuvring motion characteristics in still water were verified. The correlations between the maximum roll angle and the navigation position, sailing speed, and rudder angle were investigated in detail. A safety risk response theory of navigation in the area of landslide-generated tsunamis was proposed, and a scientific basis was provided for the safe navigation of ships in the Three Gorges Reservoir area.

Description: The acoustic environment of urban residential areas is closely related to road traffic noise. More specifically, the effect of the light rail on the old residential area in Chongqing is potentially profound. Using geographic information system (GIS) to construct a map of the urban light rail’s influence on the acoustic environment of residential areas, the influence of noise can be determined. Very few studies exist on the impact of light rails on the acoustic environment of residential areas, and there is no literature on the impact of light rails on the acoustic environment of residential areas using GIS. In this study, the degree of influence of a light rail on nearby residential areas and the diffusion degree of light rail noise in these areas during various times of the day were analysed by measuring the objective indicators of acoustic landscape elements and evaluating subjective indicators. The layout mode of the residential areas and the light rail were superimposed, and other traffic noise influences were eliminated. This method provides a scientific basis for the planning, design, and reconstruction of residential areas.

Description: The development of the urban Binjiang belt has influenced the water environment quality. Taking the Chongqing section of the Yangtze River basin and the Binjiang section of the urban center as examples, representative water intake points were selected to extract the urban layout pattern of the Binjiang belt, and the distribution characteristics of its influence on water environment quality were studied using a geographic information system. A structural equation model was used to establish a model of the influence of urban layout on water environment quality, and the water quality test results were added to the model to calculate the contribution rates of different land types to water environment quality. The research results and methods can be used for reference for urban water environment quality and for evaluating the influence of urban design on water environment quality.

Description: Large-scale instability of a landslide body, sliding down a bank slope and entering water at a high speed, arouses landslide surges. Taking the water entry point as a source point, they spread rapidly to surrounding areas, increasing the danger risk of vessel passages in the water area. In this paper, adopting an orthogonal experimental design method, based on the test data, the Three Gorges Reservoir area was derived in order to calculate the height of the first wave of the bank landslide surge: to analyze the slope angle, the geological environment, the volume of the landslide surge, and the landslide surge wave steepness; to study the landslide volume effect on ship rolling and the swaying motion rule; and to explore the landslide surge in different ship rolling positions and transverse oscillation characteristics. This study can provide theoretical support for the navigation safety of ships in landslide surge waters.

Description: The slope of a reservoir area is unstable and can be destroyed by natural disasters, such as strong earthquakes and rainstorms. Landslide bodies that enter the water and generate landslide surges pose serious safety risks to terminals, ships, and hydraulic structures in a reservoir area. After analyzing landslide data in a reservoir area, a series of comparative tests was carried out to investigate the propagation characteristics of landslide-induced tsunamis in channel reservoirs, and the changes in water level values at various monitoring points in the river channel after the landslides entered the water were explored. The effects of landslide width and thickness on the characteristics of landslide-induced tsunamis were analyzed. The main target was a fixed-velocity ship in landslide-swelling water. The complex nonlinear motion characteristics of the ship on the water were studied to determine the safe navigation range.

Description: Strong earthquakes, heavy rains, changes in reservoir water levels, and other external factors destabilize large rock masses causing them to fall into the water at high speed, thereby destroying the original ecological balance in the region. These occurrences cause fluctuations in water levels and form landslide-induced waves, which behave similar to tsunamis upon reaching the shore, a dam structure, or ships. The impact invariably threatens residents’ lives and properties in the upper and lower reaches of the reservoir area. In the current study, we conducted orthogonal experiments of landslide-induced impulse waves to assess their related hazards. To explore the effects of a landslide-generated wave on the roll characteristics of a ship, experimental model tests were performed using different speed vessels, landslide bodies, and navigation positions. Accordingly, a reasonable optimization strategy was proposed to provide technical support for ship navigation safety in regions of landslide-generated waves.
