Notes:
ZnSO4 and NH4HCO3 were used as raw materials for the preparation of a Zn5CO3(OH)6 precursor. Nanometer ZnO powders were synthesized from the precursor by controlled plasma pyrolysis. The average particle size of the ZnO powders was about 20 nm as observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The content of ZnO reached 99.8 wt% as determined by induction coupled plasma (ICP) analysis, and the specific surface area was about 77 m2/g. When compared with conventional ZnO powders, one half of the amount of nanometer ZnO had the equivalent effect on the properties of rubber.
