Abstract An optical strain measurement system was developed that includes computer processing of stereoscopic picture data of marks painted on the specimen. This system allows us to measure large strains in specimens with curved surfaces as well as plane surfaces even at elevated temperatures. The results of a verification test performed on a bellows specimen at room temperature have shown that the strain error of this measurement system is allowable considering the limitation of the apparatus.
