We aim to overcome the absence in the measurement method of the downward thermal output as well as to address the challenges in the control of the heat transfer resistance of the heat transfer layer, which arise due to the contact resistance between the layers. Using the modified method, we compare the thermal performance of three types of raised floor integrated radiant heating panels that have different filler materials for the bottom insulation of the panel. We show that the most efficient sample panel is the one that is not filled with a material; with an efficiency of 70.1%. In addition, we show that the value of the gradient of the characteristic curve calculated by the existing method ranged between 7.2% to 14.9% larger than that obtained by modified method. This difference is attributed to the heat transfer resistance of the heat transfer layer that is present in the experiments, and has a value in the interval of 0.1096 m 2 K / W to 0.1582 m 2 K / W . This is caused by the contact resistance between the heat transfer layer and other layers, even though the heat transfer resistance of the heat transfer layer used in the experiment is 0.0985 m 2 K / W . The modified method proposed in this study reveals that the experimental results are not influenced by the heat transfer resistance of the heat transfer layer. We also show that our experimental results are reproducible.

    Notizen: The use of inconsistent displacement fields for Mindlin plate elements causes unmatched coefficients to appear in shear strain interpolations. The role of the numerical integration order in relation to these unmatched coefficients, and the existence of optimal stress points are explained through the use of the reduced minimization concept. This concept makes it possible to test whether assumed displacement fields or shear strain fields result in inconsistent strain fields which contain spurious constraints. We have included applications of reduced minimization to the conventional C0-continuous elements, which employ reduced integration, and to quadrilateral Mindlin plate elements of Hinton and Huang to demonstrate how these elements alleviate shear locking.

    Notizen: By using the field-consistency and least-squares fit concepts, reduced minimization theory is proposed to show the effect of numerical integration on the behaviour of C0-continuous beam elements when the Jacobian is constant within an element. The theory provides a unified viewpoint on the relationship between spurious constraint, the location of optimal sampling points and integration order. The conventional Uniformly Reduced Integration (URI) and Selective Reduced Integration (SRI) are redefined by using reduced minimization theory. We also present numerical reduced minimization theory, which explains the effects of more-than-two-order-lower reduced integration when Gaussian quadrature is employed.

    Notizen: This paper presents concepts of two-dimensional reduced minimization of product type and non-product type: the analytical reduced minimization theory in one dimension when extended to that of Mindlin plate elements reveals that the two-dimensional reduced minimization for Lagrangian plate elements can be obtained by the successive use of the one-dimensional reduced minimization. But this relation does not hold for serendipity elements due to an incompleteness of displacement functions.This paper examines effects of various integrations of shear strain energy by applying the one-dimensional successive reduced minimization to Lagrangian and serendipity plate elements. The results show why the selective 2×3 and 3×2 rule for the transverse shear strain energies of an 8-noded plate element cannot eliminate locking and why a conventional 12-noded plate element of serendipity family does not have one-order-lower, optimal Gauss strain locations. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
