Three-dimensional NMR imaging was used to create true maps of the 14N distribution in aqueous phantoms containing ammonium nitrate and sodium azide. The technique allowed for the creation of separate images from each nitrogen chemical environment and a total nitrogen image devoid of any appreciable artefacts.
