Description / Table of Contents:
The semiconducting properties of polymeric SCHIFF-bases including polychelates of 2.5-dihydroxyterephthalaldehyde and a series of di- and tetraaminocompounds and diaminodihydroxycompounds (with a hydroxy group next to the amino group) and also the semiconducting properties of monomeric SCHIFF-bases including chelates prepared from salicylaldehyde and the same diaminodihydroxycompounds were investigated (preparationwas communicated in part I). The measurements showed that the chemical constitution of the diaminocompound (in monomeric and polymeric SCHIFF-bases) has a relatively small influence on the electrical conductivity (range 10-11 to 10-16 Ω-l · cm-1, mostly 10-13 to 10-15 Ω-l· cm-1). Polymeric SCHIFF-bases of tetraaminocompounds show a higher conductivity (range 10-10 to 10-11 Ω-1· cm-1).The transition from polymeric SCHIFF-bases (with a relative great mobility within the molecule) to the analogous polychelate (with a planar and inflexible centre of chelation) causes an increase in conductivity of about four to five quantities (range 10-10 to 10-11 Ω-l · cm-1). The polychelates with the most inflexible structure were found to have the highest conductivities. The coordination-polymers of 2.5-dihydroxyterephthalaldehyde and of its dioxime have an electrical conductivity of 10-10 to 10-11 Ω-l · cm-1. Monomeric SCHIFF-bases (prepared from salicylaldehyde), analogous to the polymers, show only a small difference in conductivity to the monomer chelates but altogetherxs they show a smaller conductivity than the analogous polymers.
Notes:
