Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
The electrofluorination of urea to nitrogen trifluoride at a carbon anode, in the system KHF2—HF—CO(NH2)2 has been studied. The effect of current density concentration of urea, and anode potential on the composition of the anodic product gas was investigated (by-products: N2, CO2, CO, O2, OF2, CF4; F2). At optimum conditions (0.1∼1 A/dm2; 5.0-5.5 V versus Pt electrode, 2-3mol-% of urea) the current efficiency of NF3 was 55%, whereas in the previously investigated system KHF2—HF—NH4F 75% may be achieved.
