Abstract The multiple equilibrium shapes, i. e., bifurcation behavior of the flexible bars subject to axial eccentric force are analyzed by the large deflection theory. Three types of elastica of equilibrium shape are discussed, and the method for determining the various classes of bifurcation of equilibrium due to given loads is presented.
