Notes: This article investigates the dynamic movement process of a 180° domain wall in an external electric field. By modeling the domain wall movement as a dynamic process, the induced electric and magnetic fields due to a growing general ellipsoidal 180° domain under the action of a given electric field was derived explicitly. A general form of the energy release rate was derived through a surface integral, which can serve as the driving force for the movement of the surface. Based on the solution, the released electromagnetic energy during the dynamic process was evaluated. This electromagnetic energy is used to compensate the surface energy increase and the energy dissipation due to the finite velocity of the domain wall movement. Following the result, an equation is established to determine the growth speed of the 180° domain. Finally, the cases where the domain shape is cylindrical and spherical, and the domain wall propagates along the radial direction and the applied electric field direction, respectively, were considered in detail as illustrative examples. It is found that the resistance caused by the depolarization field for the wall to grow along the direction of the applied electric field is only one fifth of the value for the wall to grow along the radial direction. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The system bases on the theory of rolling-wheel to measure large diameter, by applyingdouble counters to record the round grating’s signal and using the method of three rolling-wheelsparalleling data acquisition, redundancy measurement and error amendment and so on, realizes themeasurement of large axis workpieces’ diameter with high precision in on-line and dynamiccondition. The experiment shows that the system can achieve the on-line dynamic measurementprecision in m D µ 5 at the range of the diameter m m D 5 ~ 1 = complexly combining hardware and softunder the relevant control methods

Notes: Based on the principle of moiré techniques, a new method combined with ElectricAddressing SLM technique was proposed. The specimen grating is modulated by the SLM system, and its the frequency can be changed with aid of a 4f Fourier system. The moiré is generated by theoverlapped specimen grating and a reference grating in the Fourier system. Typical test is conductedwith a polyurethane beam. The successful results verify the feasibility of the method, and show itsgood potential of further application to the in-plane deformation measurement

Notes: Abstract Based on Kunin's microstructure theory, the Random Point Field Theory is proposed to study a statistically inhomogeneous medium with randomly distributed inclusions. By using the theory, several examples are worked out, such as the effective modulus of composites and the micro-field around and in an inclusion.

Notes: Abstract Large-scale dispersion in heterogeneous porous media is studied by using a simple model based on stochastic calculation of convective flow in a bundle of stream tubes. The advantage of this approach is that there is a local relationship between velocity and permeability in the 1-dimensional space of the stream tubes. Dispersion is due to the variation in stream tube cross-section, related to the permeability field. First, the arrival times of the tracer in the stream tubes are related to the stochastic properties of the permeability field (variance and covariance). Then, transport equations are derived from the moments of the arrival times. The results agree with more complicated studies. For a permeability field with long-range correlation, the transport equation is not unique. It depends on the assumptions involving moments higher than two. Assuming a Gaussian shape for the tracer flux leads to equations similar to the ones obtained in previous studies of time-dependent dispersivity. Without this approximation, the equation is non-local (integrodifferential) and leads to a memory effect. In the last part of this paper, the general results are illustrated with several correlation functions for the permeability field: purely random, exponential and power law covariance, and perfectly layered media.

Notes: Summary The “living” synthesis of α,Ω-di-tert.-chloropolyisobutylene ( t -Cl-telechelic PIB) has been accomplished by the use of the sterically hindered bifunctional initiator 1,3-di-(2-methoxy-2-propyl)-5-tert.-butylbenzene (tBu-m-DiCuOMe) in conjunction with BC13 coinitiator in CH3Cl or CH2Cl2 diluents at −30°C and −10°C. The living nature of the polymerizations was demonstrated by linear ¯Mn versus WPIB (g of PIB formed) plots starting at the origin and horizontal N (number of PIB moles) versus WPIB plots. The molecular weight distributions are narrow (¯MW/¯Mn 〈 2.0) and tend to decrease with increasing molecular weights. Number average end functionalities have been quantitated and found to be ¯Fn = 2.0±0.1.

Notes: Summary 2,6-Dimethoxy-2,4,4,6-tetramethylheptane (TMHDiOMe) in conjunction with BCl3 has been found to be an efficient linear bifunctional aliphatic initiator for the living carbocationic polymerization of isobutylene in CH2Cl2 or CH3C1 solvents at −30°C (using both the IMA and AMI techniques) and in CH2Cl2 at −10°C (using AMI). The living nature of the polymerization was demonstrated by linear ¯Mn versus amount of PIB formed (WPIB) plots starting at the origin, i.e., DPn obeyed [IB]/ [TMHDiOMe·BCl3]. The molecular weight distributions of polyisobutylenes (PIB) synthesized at −30°C in CH2Cl2 were narrower (1.3–2.0) than those synthesized at −10°C in CH2Cl2(1.7–1.9). Forced termination by quenching with methanol produces α, Ω- tert.-chlorine capped telechelic. PIBs.
