In:  Supplement to: Shao, Hebin; Yang, Shouye; Wang, Quan; Guo, Yulong (2015): Discriminating hydrothermal and terrigenous clays in the Okinawa Trough, East China Sea: Evidences from mineralogy and geochemistry. Chemical Geology, 398, 85-96, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.chemgeo.2015.02.001

Description: The Okinawa Trough (OT) in the East Asian continental margin is characterized by thick terrigenous sediment and ubiquitous volcanic-hydrothermal activities. In this study, the clays collected during IODP Expedition 331 to the middle OT (Iheya North Knoll) were analyzed for mineralogical and geochemical compositions. By comparing with the clays from the East China Sea shelf and surrounding rivers, we examine different clay origins. The hydrothermal field in the mid-OT is dominated by Mg-rich chlorite, while the recharge zone has clay mineral assemblages similar to the shelf and rivers, showing high content of illite, subordinate chlorite and kaolinite and scarce smectite. Compared to the terrigenous clays, the hydrothermal clays in the OT have high concentrations of Mg, Mn and Zr but low Fe, Na, K, Ca, Ba, Sr, P, Sc and Ti, while the hydrothermal clays in the mid-ocean ridge are relatively enriched in Fe and V and depleted in Al, Mg, Zr, Sc and Ti. Different fractionation patterns of rare earth elements also register in the terrigenous and hydrothermal clays, diagnostic of variable clay origins. We infer that the OT hydrothermal clay was primarily formed by the chemical alteration of detrital sediments subject to the hydrothermal fluids. The remarkably different compositions of hydrothermal clays between the sediment-rich back arc basin like OT and the sediment-starved ocean ridge suggest different physical and chemical processes of hydrothermal fluids and fluid-rock/sediment reactions under various geologic settings.

Notes: The electro-optic effect of periodically poled optical superlattice LiNbO3 (PPLN) was studied. Because of the periodic electro-optic (EO) coefficient, the reciprocal vector of the periodic structure can be used to compensate for the phase mismatch between the ordinary and extraordinary waves, which is similar to the nonlinear optical frequency conversion process. If the quasi-phase-matching condition is satisfied, polarization of a light propagated in PPLN can rotate linearly with the applied electric field, which shows that PPLN may be used as a precise spectral filter or an EO switch. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: An acoustic superlattice LiNbO3 crystal with periodic ferroelectric domain structure was fabricated by introducing a periodic electric current through the solid–liquid interface during the crystal growing process. The domain morphology of an as-grown crystal was observed with a scanning electron microscope, and was found to be of good periodicity. A light diffraction experiment indicated that there was a periodic fluctuation of the dielectric constant along the crystal's growing direction. Using the "crossed field" scheme, a 340 MHz ultrasonic was excited in the crystal, which means that the acoustic superlattice is suitable for constructing high-frequency bulk-wave acoustic devices. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The title compound, 2,2′-(2,4,8,10-tetrathiaspiro[5.5]undecane-3,9-diylidene)bis(propanedinitrile), C13H8N4S4, has been designed and synthesized for use as a potential new organic molecular electronic material. The spiro-annulated structure has twofold symmetry and is formed by two equal push–pull ethylene units, with the cycloalkylthio groups as electron donors and the cyano groups as electron acceptors. The intermolecular S...N non-bonded separation within a layer in the lattice is 3.296 (6) Å, indicating a strong intermolecular interaction between the cyano groups and the S atoms, while the S atoms in two neighbouring molecules have a shortest S...S contact of 3.449 (3) Å. In addition, attractive C—H...N and C—H...S interactions bridge adjacent molecules either within a layer or between layers. In short, these four types of intermolecular interactions combine to form an extended three-dimensional network in the lattice, resulting in a highly ordered array of molecular packing.

Notes: Abstract Silver nitrate reacts with sodium azide to give white powdery silver azide, which can be crystallized in aqueous ammonia. The compound belongs to orthorhombic space group Ibam with a = 5.600(1), b = 5.980(6), c = 5.998(1) Å, and Z = 4. The layer-type structure is constructed from edge-sharing regular rectangles, each composed of silver atoms at its vertices with an enclosed azide anion in a tilted orientation. The linear and asymmetrical structure of the azide anion in crystalline silver azide has been confirmed by its Raman spectrum.

Notes: By analyzing the trend of MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), the concept ofRMES (Reconfigurable Manufacturing Execution Systems) is put forward, which takes informationintegration as groundwork, aims at optimization of production processes and supportsorganizations, resources and processes for flexible conFig.. MDA (Model-driven Architecture) isintroduced to provide more flexible in the process of the development of RMES, which would adaptto different technology used by the bottom systems and provide a more effective method to buildRMES. During the development of RMES, many models are created, such as the model of businessanalysis, the model of components and the model of deployment. An instance of the system of plan, part of RMES, is presented to show how MDA used in the process of the development of RMES.Later, an application is given to show that RMES based on MDA can decrease the costs ofdevelopment and maintenance for fitting the evolution of the enterprise

Description: A series of M(PyED)·X (X = 2Cl−, SO42−) pyridine–metalloenediyne complexes [M = Cu(II), Fe(II), or Zn(II)] and their independently synthesized, cyclized analogs have been prepared to investigate their potential as radical-generating DNA-damaging agents. All complexes possess a 1:1 metal-to-ligand stoichiometry as determined by electronic absorption spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Solution structural analysis reveals a pπ Cl → Cu(II) LMCT (22,026 cm−1) for Cu(PyED)·2Cl, indicating three nitrogens and a chloride in the psuedo-equatorial plane with the remaining pyridine nitrogen and solvent in axial positions. EPR spectra of the Cu(II) complexes exhibit an axially elongated octahedron. This spectroscopic evidence, together with density functional theory computed geometries, suggest six-coordinate structures for Cu(II) and Fe(II) complexes and a five-coordinate environment for Zn(II) analogs. Bergman cyclization via thermal activation of these constructs yields benzannulated product indicative of diradical generation in all complexes within 3 h at 37 °C. A significant metal dependence on the rate of the reaction is observed [Cu(II) 〉 Fe(II) 〉 Zn(II)], which is mirrored in in vitro DNA-damaging outcomes. Whereas in situ chelation of PyED leads to considerable degradation in the presence of all metals within 1 h under hyperthermia conditions, Cu(II) activation produces 〉50% compromised DNA within 5 min. Additionally, Cu(II) chelated PyED outcompetes DNA polymerase I to successfully inhibit template strand extension. Exposure of HeLa cells to Cu(PyBD)·SO4 (IC50 = 10 μM) results in a G2/M arrest compared with untreated samples, indicating significant DNA damage. These results demonstrate metal-controlled radical generation for degradation of biopolymers under physiologically relevant temperatures on short timescales.
