Notes:
Infrared and Raman spectra of octamethylcyclotetrasilazane [(CH3)2SiNH]4 are reported for the compound in the gaseous and liquid states and for solutions in CCl4. 21 Raman bands have been observed for the first time. They are assigned on the basis of group frequencies. Their temperature dependence does not reveal any favoured conformation. Raman spectra of both polycrystalline powders and single crystals are well explained if the existence of chair and boat forms is assumed, according to X-ray results.
