Summary The extracellular components in the trabecular meshwork of four human eyes with intrabulbar tumour were studied. 1. Native collagen fibrils showed small diameters, similar to those in the iris and in the cornea. 2. Short fibrils with a symmetrical cross-band period pattern were found. These fibrils are previously found only in the iris. 3. Unidentified, fine filaments, sometimes with cross-striations, were present in considerable amounts. 4. A detailed description of the so-called 1000 Å-banded material is given. 5. The “elastic” fibers in the trabecular meshwork appeared different from other elastic fibers. 6. The basement membrane of the trabeculae showed varying thickness. Beneath the endothelium of the inner wall it was usually absent, similar to what is the case in lymphatic capillaries. 7. A homogeneous or amorphous material is described.
