Oligomers of methyl methacrylate obtained by anionic polymerization are saponified in methanolic potassium hydroxyde solution in such a way that the ester groups which are bound to the tertiary terminal C atom undergo saponification with a constant high speed k1 regardless of the degree of polymerization. Of the remaining ester groups which are bound to quaternary carbon atoms only one undergoes saponification with a still measurable speed k2; k1 and k2 differ from each other by about one order of magnitude.

Anionisch hergestellte Oligomere des Methacrylsäuremethylesters verseifen in methanolischer bzw. äthanolischer Kalilauge in der Weise, daß die an den endständigen, tertiären Kohlenstoffatomen gebundenen Estergruppen unabhängig vom Polymerisationsgrad mit konstanter und hoher Geschwindigkeit k1 verseifen. Von den restlichen, an quartären C-Atomen gebundenen Estergruppen verseift lediglich nur eine mit noch meßbarer Geschwindigkeit k2; k1 und k2 unterscheiden sich etwa um eine Größenordnung.
