Notes:
A sample of a granodiorite was prepared as a rock powder and as a glass powder and distributed to 35 laboratories for the determination of 6 constituents, commonly measured in rock analysis schemes. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the glass powder would prove to be more homogeneous, as determined by the precision of analyses, than the corresponding rock powder. Only one constituent, iron, has been determined with better precision in the glass sample than the rock powder, suggesting that iron is more randomly distributed in a glass than a rock powder where it is a component of minerals. The overall precision of the reported analyses is very good and compares very favourably with the precision of analyses indicated for the international standards GS-N and SX-2.
