    Description / Table of Contents: Sommaire On a développé un commutateur électronique à courant alternatif bon marché pour usage dans des milieux où les commutateurs transitoires ne peuvent pas être tolérés. L'antiparasitage transitoire est obtenu par l'usage d'un détecteur de voltage zéro-croisant qui barre un thyristor en conduction dès que le voltage de ligne est zéro. Un couplage optique est utilisé pour isoler électriquement le circuit du déclencheur d'entrée de courant du circuit barreur du thyristor. Un autre trait de ce circuit est qu'il est possible de commuter des charges fortement inductives sans générer des transitoires.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Ein billiger elektronischer Wechselstromnetzschalter ist entwickelt worden für den Gebrauch in Umgebungen wo Schaltstöße nicht geduldet werden können. Die Unterdrückung der Schaltstöße wird erreicht durch die Verwendung eines Nullkreuzung-Spannungsdemodulators, der einen Thyristor anschaltet, wenn die Leitungsspannung bei Null liegt. Optische Kopplung wird für die elektrische Isolation der Eingangstrigger-Schaltung von der Thyristor-Auswertung Schaltung verwendet. Eine zusätzliche Eigenschaft dieser Schaltung besteht aus der Tatsache, daß hochinduktive Lasten auch umgeschaltet werden können, ohne Schaltstöße zu erzeugen.
    Notes: Abstract An inexpensive electronic a.c. power switch has been developed for use in environments where switching transients cannot be tolerated. Transient suppression is achieved by using a zero-crossing voltage detector to gate a thyristor into conduction whenever the line voltage is zero. Optical coupling is used electrically to isolate the input-trigger circuit from the thyristor-gating circuit. An additional feature of this circuit is that highly inductive loads can also be switched without generating any transients.

    Notes: Abstract The direct measurement of blood pressure has found widespread use in intensive care units, operating rooms, and in emergency departments. Infection, air embolism and thrombosis are some of the risks to patients associated with both the cannulation procedure and with the apparatus used in the blood-pressure measuring process. Although there is constant revision in an attempt to reduce these risks, they cannot be completely eliminated. The need for direct blood-pressure measurements and the physiological effects of air embolism and thrombosis are reviewed. Infection and problems related to the techniques used to insert the catheters are not discussed.
