Notes: Abstract The present work is a continuation of our earlier work on the charged dust sources of purely electromagnetic origin for static axisymmetric and static spherically-symmetric fields. Here we have extended the above work to the case of generalized static metric and have shown that a static charged dust distribution, irrespective of any symmetry conditions, can be only of purelly electromagnetic origin. Incidentally, it follows from this result itself that the ‘Weyl-Majumdar-Papapetrou’ class of static charged dust sources, which form an important class of astrophysical systems, are also of purely electromagnetic origin.

Notes: Abstract This paper presents a set of solutions of coupled Einstein-Maxwell equations with matter for the Levi-Civita's metric which can be interpreted as electromagnetic mass models which are extensions of the electromagnetic mass models obtained previously. It may be pointed out that electromagnetic mass models are solutions of coupled Einstein-Maxwell equations with matter where all the characteristics of matter vanish when the charge vanishes. Existence of such solution tends to confirm Lorentz's conjecture that the mass of an electron may be of purely electromagnetic origin.

Notes: Abstract The Einstein-Maxwell field equations for charged dust corresponding to static axially-symmetric metric of Levi-Civita have been studied. It has been shown that when the metric potentialsg ij are functions of only one of the coordinates, viz.,r, the interior charged dust becomes purely of electromagnetic origin, in the sense that the physical quantities like the energy density, the effective gravitational mass, etc., are dependent only on the charge density and vanish when this charge density vanishes. Such models are known as electromagnetic mass models in the classical electrodynamics. An interior charged dust solution corresponding to this case has been obtained which, in a sense, represents an infinite dust distribution of electromagnetic origin. In the second case, viz., when the metric potentials are functions of the coordinatesr andz both, it has been shown that some of the situations correspond to electromagnetic mass models. An example to illustrate this case has been obtained. This represents the source of the ‘Reissner-Nordström-Curzon’ field (an analogue of the Reissner-Nordström solution obtained by Curzon) which according to Curzon describes the exterior field of an electron.

Notes: Abstract The present paper is a continuation of our earlier work on gravitational sources of purely electromagnetic origin, known in the literature as electromagnetic mass models. Here we have shown that a bounded (regular) interior static sperical-symmetric charged dust, if exists, can only be of electromagnetic origin.

Notes: Abstract We have obtained relations between certain components of the metric and the electromagnetic potentials for source-free Brans-Dicke-Maxwell fields described by a nonstatic cylindrically symmetric Einstein-Rosen metric. These are important, in the sense that they generate a class of solutions that in a way can be said to belong to the class generated by similar relations obtained by Majumdar [1] and Papapetrou [2] for generalized static Einstein-Maxwell fields. The relations have further been used to reduce the B-D Maxwell equations to B-D vacuum equations and vice versa.

Notes: Abstract The problem of charged perfect fluid distribution is investigated when the space-time is described by the Einstein-Rosen metric. It is shown that with assumed cylindrical symmetry the cosmological constant Λ vanishes, the electromagnetic field becomes source-free, and the perfect fluid reduces to Zel'dovich fluid withp=ϱ. Sets of exact solutions for this case have been obtained and the corresponding solutions for Brans-Dicke-Maxwell fields have been derived. For these solutions the Einstein-Rosen metric, however, goes over to three-parameter Marder metric in Brans-Dicke theory.

Notes: Abstract A class of solutions, which may be called the Majumdar-Papapetrou (MP) class, has been derived for static coupled zero-mass and source-free electromagnetic fields. This has been done in two stages. First, it has been shown that the well-known MP relation between theg 44 component of the metric tensor and the electrostatic potential, in certain physical situations, continues to remain the same without being affected by the presence of the zeromass field. Second, using the method of Majumdar, we have developed a theorem that enables one to generate solutions for the coupled field from Einstein's vacuum equations and the solution of a differential equation which, due to its resemblance, may be called a generalized Laplace equation.
