    Beschreibung: To design an efficient and economical timetable for a heavily congested urban rail corridor, a scheduling model is proposed in this paper. The objective of the proposed model is to find the departure time of trains at the start terminal to minimize the system cost, which includes passenger waiting cost and operating cost. To evaluate the performance of the timetable, a simulation model is developed to simulate the detailed movements of passengers and trains with strict constraints of station and train capacities. It assumes that passengers who arrive early will have more chances to access a station and board a train. The accessing and boarding processes of passengers are all based on a first-come-first-serve basis. When a station is full, passengers unable to access must wait outside until the number of waiting passengers at platform falls below a given value. When a train is full, passengers unable to board must wait at the platform for the next train to arrive. Then, based on the simulation results, a two-stage genetic algorithm is introduced to find the best timetable. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and solution method.

    Beschreibung: Hierarchical heterostructures of beta-iron oxyhydroxide (β-FeOOH) nanostructures on electrospun TiO2 nanofibers were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. This synthesis method proves to be versatile to tailoring of β-FeOOH structural design that cuts across zero-dimensional particles (TF-P), one-dimensional needles (TF-N) to two-dimensional flakes (TF-F). In addition, synthesizing such oxyhyroxide nanostructures presents the advantage of exhibiting similar functional performances to its oxides counterpart however, without the need to undergo any annealing step which leads to undesirable structural collapse or sintering. The as-prepared hierarchical heterostructures possess high surface area for dye adsorptivity, efficient charge separation and visible photocatalytic activity. Also, for the first time, hydrogen gas sensing has been demonstrated on β-FeOOH nanostructures at room temperature. The reported hierarchical heterostructures of β-FeOOH on TiO2 nanofibers afford multiple functions of photocatalysis and sensing which are highly promising for environment monitoring and clean up applications.     Beschreibung: An accelerated multilevel aggregation method is presented for calculating the stationary probability vector of an irreducible stochastic matrix in PageRank computation, where the vector extrapolation method is its accelerator. We show how to periodically combine the extrapolation method together with the multilevel aggregation method on the finest level for speeding up the PageRank computation. Detailed numerical results are given to illustrate the behavior of this method, and comparisons with the typical methods are also made.

    Beschreibung: Remote sensing images have been applied to a wide range of fields, but they are often degraded by various types of stripes, which affect the image visual quality and limit the subsequent processing tasks. Most existing destriping methods fail to exploit the stripe properties adequately, leading to suboptimal performance. Based on a full consideration of the stripe properties, we propose a new destriping model to achieve stripe detection and stripe removal simultaneously. In this model, we adopt the unidirectional total variation regularization to depict the directional property of stripes and the weighted ℓ 2 , 1 -norm regularization to depict the joint sparsity of stripes. Then, we combine the alternating direction method of multipliers and iterative support detection to solve the proposed model effectively. Comparison results on simulated and real data suggest that the proposed method can remove and detect stripes effectively while preserving image edges and details.

    Beschreibung: The global quasi-minimal residual (QMR) method is a popular iterative method for the solution of linear systems with multiple right-hand sides. In this paper, we consider the application of the global QMR method to classical ill-posed problems arising from image restoration. Since the scale of the problem is usually very large, the computations with the blurring matrix can be very expensive. In this regard, we use a Kronecker product approximation of the blurring matrix to benefit the computation. In order to reduce the disturbance of noise to the solution, the Tikhonov regularization technique is adopted to produce better approximation of the desired solution. Numerical results show that the global QMR method outperforms the classic CGLS method and the global GMRES method.

    Beschreibung: This paper investigates the mode change behavior of park-and-ride (P&R) users, which is of considerable significance to analyze the effectiveness of P&R site on the commuters’ travel mode change as well as the increase of public transport mode share. Data from an intercept interview survey conducted at different P&R facilities in Metropolitan Melbourne is used. A questionnaire containing revealed preference (RP) and stated preference (SP) questions is used to interview the individuals who park at the facility and catch public transport to go to city. This study firstly aims to know the factors affecting current travel behavior using RP data and secondly to investigate the importance of the factors on influencing the commuters’ decision of travel mode choice using the SP data. The empirical models using multinomial logistic regression reveal that travel time taken by transit vehicle and transfer time at P&R stations are the primary factors affecting individuals’ decision on choosing public transport whereas parking fare is the additional factor affecting commuters’ choice of driving. Based on the results of this study, the effectiveness of P&R scheme on commuters’ travel mode change is evaluated which would be helpful to shed lights on the future construction of P&R sites.

    Beschreibung: For second-order and high-order dynamic multiagent systems with multiple leaders, the coordination schemes that all the follower agents flock to the polytope region formed by multiple leaders are considered. Necessary and sufficient conditions which the follower agents can enter the polytope region by the leaders are obtained. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate our theoretical results.
