The changing behavior for infrared thermal image omen of the rock with fracture isessential for the geotechnical engineering. In order to study the behavior, the infrared thermalimages for the failure process of rock with hole are carried out. The size of the rock sample is20cm×10cm×2cm with hole at the center of the sample and the diameter of the hole is 1cm.Considering the fact that sample will effect the results of the observation for infrared thermal imageduring the experiment, the laminated granite sample was used to replace the cylinder or cuboidsample. The achieved results under uniaxial compression indicate that intensity of the microruptures have a close relation with the thermal effects. When the main fractures happen, there is astrip of high temperature that will appear at the destructed local area. During loading process, theabnormity of infrared temperature has two kinds of behaviors as follows: (1) temperature rises andfalls alternately, rises before the fracture; (2) temperature falls slowly at beginning, and then risesslowly, then rises quickly before the fracture appears. Even for the same rock sample, the behaviorsof the infrared phenomenon may be different during failure
