    Notes: Crystal Structure of (1,2:5,6-η-1,5-Cyclooctadiene)(1 - 3-η-1,4-cyclooctadienyl)rhodium(I)The crystal structure of the title compound 1 was determined from single crystal X-ray data and refined to an R-value of 0.047. The rhodium atom forms one tetrahapto and one trihapto bond with its ligands and exhibits a 16 electron configuration.

    Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis and Properties of Normal π-Cycloolefin Rhodium ComplexesBy reactions of [LRhCl]2, (L = 1,5-cycloheptadiene, 1,3-cycloheptadiene, norbornadiene) and of [C5(CH3)5RhCl2]2 with i-C3H7MgBr in the presence of cyclic oligoolefins with different ring size neutral π-complexes of the type [(diene)RhI(allyl)] und [(diene)RhI(dienyl)] were synthesized in which the central metal achieves a 16- and 18-electron valence shell, respectively. The spectroscopic and several chemical properties of the compounds are described. In contrast to the 16-electron complexes some of the 18-electron compounds show a fluxional behaviour.
    Notes: Durch Umsetzung von [LRhCl]2(L = 1,5-Cyclooctadien, 1,3,-Cycloheptadien, Norbornadien) und von[C5 (CH3) 5RhCl2]2miti-C3H7MgBr in Gegenwart cyclischer Oligoolefine unterschiedlicher Ringgröße wurden neutrale π-Komplexe des Typs [(Dien)RhI(Allyl)] und [(Dien)RhI(Dienyl)] synthetisiert, in denen das Zentralmetall eine 16- bzw. 18-Elektronen-Valenzschale erreicht. Die spektroskopischen und einige chemischen Eigenschaften der Verbindungen werden beschrieben. Im Gegensatz zu den 16-Elektronen-Komplexen zeigen einige 18-Elektronen-Verbindungen ein fluktuierendes Verhalten.

    Description / Table of Contents: Neutral (η-Allyl)(η-l,5-cyclooctadiene)rhodium (I) Complexes[(COD)RhCl]2 (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) (1) reacts with i-C3H7 MgBr in the presence of acyclic conjugated dienes to give neutral, diamagnetic π-complexes of the type [(COD)Rh1(allyl)] (2-7) in which the central metal achieves a 16-electron valence shell. The complex formation is regio- and stereoselective, only one isomer being produced in any case.
    Notes: Durch Umsetzung von [(COD)RhCl]2 (COD = 1,5-Cyclooctadien) (1) mit i-C3H7MgBr in Gegenwart acyclischer konjugierter Diene werden neutrale, diamagnetische π-Komplexe der allgemeinen Form [(COD)Rh1(Allyl)] (2-7) hergestellt, in denen das Zentralmetall eine 16-Elektronen-Valenzschale erreicht. Die Komplexbildung erfolgt regio- und stereoselektiv, in jedem Falle entsteht nur ein Isomeres.

    Description / Table of Contents: π-Cyclooctatrienyl and π-Cyclootatetraene Rhodium ComplexesReaction of [(diene)RhCl]2 with Na2C8H8 in THF and successive hydrolysis leads to the formation of the complexes [(diene)Rh(cyclooctatrienyl)] (7: diene = 1,5-cyclooctadiene; 8: diene = norbornadiene). It follows from 1H-and 13C n. m. r. investigations that in these fluxional molecules the Rh-atom at 20° C achieves and 18-, at low temperatures a 16-electron configuration. 7 is protonated by HPF6 in ether. Depending on the reaction conditions 7 and 8 in solution at 20° C are converted into different dinuclear complexes with Rh—Rh bonds; from 7 either (1,5-cyclooctadiene)-μ-(3-5-η: 1-2: 6-7-η-cyclooctatrienyl)(3-5-η-cyclooctatrienyl)dirhodium (9), confirmed by X-ray structure analysis, or bis(1,5-cylcooctadiene)-μ-(cyclooctatetraene)dirhodium (10) is formed, 8 yields bis(norbornadiene)-μ-(cyclooctatertraene)dirhodium (11) as well as not isolated Rh2C23H26 which apparently has a structure analogous to that of 9.
    Notes: Umsetzungen von [(Dien) RhCl]2 mit Na2C8H8 in THF führen nach anschließender Hydrolyse zu den Komplexen [(Dien)Rh(Cyclooctatrienyl)] (7: Dien = 1, 5-Cyclooctadien; 8: Dien = Norbornadien). Nach 1H-und 13C-NMR-Untersuchungen liegt in diesen fluktuierenden Molekülen bie 20° C eine 18-, bei tiefer Temperatur eine 16-Elektronenkonfiguration am Rh-Atom vor. 7 läßt sich mit HPF6 in Äther protonieren. In Lösung wandeln sich 7 und 8 bei 20° C je nach Reaktionsbedingungen in unterschiedliche zweikernige Komplexe mit Rh-Rh-Bindungen um; aus 7 entsteht entweder röntgenstrukturanalytisch gesichertes (1,5-Cyclooctadien)-μ-(3-5-η: 1-2 : 6-7-η-cyclooctatrienyl)(3-5-η-cyclooctatrienyl)dirhodium (9) oder Bis(1,5-cyclooctadien)-μ-(cyclooctatetraen)dirhodium (10), 8 bildet Bis(norbornadien)-μ-(cyclooctatetraen)dirhodium (11) sowie nicht isoliertes Rh2 C23 H26 mit offensichtlich zu 9 analoger Struktur.
